And we aren't talking about ghouls and goblins; rather, Cardinals, Hurricanes and Tigers.
The Seminoles 2026 schedule doesn't give head coach Mike Norvell any favors, and the stretch of games in October is the toughest portion for a coach who needs success in 2026.
After a September warm-up that features SMU on Labor Day and a trip to Alabama, the Seminoles face Virginia on Oct.
3, Louisville on Oct.
9, Miami on Oct.
17 and Clemson on the 31st of October.
The game against the Tigers is figthingly set for Halloween, a game that potentially could define the season.
FSU's record exiting the month will dictate the expectations for the rest of the season.
Should the Seminoles end that run with a record at or above .500, then Norvell, in all likelihood, delivered, or is in the process of a turnaround.
End that stretch with a record below .500? Things might get tense for Norvell and the future of the program under his leadership.
Why October is the defining month of the season for FSU football The stretch pits FSU against four teams ranked inside the top-35 of ESPN's football power index (FPI), where the Seminoles are ranked 28th.
While the FPI doesn't always equate to a strong football team, at least two of the programs FSU will face are likely to be ranked inside the top-25 at the time of the games, with Miami a preseason favorite to make a return to the national title game.
The Hurricanes return key players from last season's national runner-up finish, including wide receiver Malachi Toney, running back Mark Fletcher and defensive tackle Ahmad Moten Jr.
It's one of the strongest returning rosters in the ACC, and Miami also dipped into the portal for its signal-caller, signing former Duke quarterback Darian Mensah, who passed for 3,973 yards and 34 touchdowns last season.
Mensah came to Miami with his top receiver last season, Cooper Barkate.
He caught 72 passes for 1,106 yards and seven touchdowns.
He and Toney will give opponents headaches when trying to deal with the Hurricanes' pass game.
Louisville has one of its strongest teams in recent seasons, with the retention of running back Issac Brown a massive win for the Cardinals.
Brown rushed for 884 yards and seven touchdowns last season, a year removed from a 1,000-yard season as a freshman.
He flirted with the transfer portal, but ultimately returned to Louisville for his junior season.
Jeff Brohm has a defense that can carry Louisville far, and one that will challenge Norvell when the sides meet on a Friday night.
Quarterback Lincoln Kienholz carries heightened expectations as the Cardinals are not only an ACC championship-caliber team, but potential playoff debutants.
Virginia was one of the surprises of last season, and while the Cavaliers might not be the 11-3 team of 2025, it will be a tough game for the Seminoles at home.
Missouri transfer Beau Pribula is the starting quarterback, and he comes in after throwing for 1,941 yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions in his lone season in Columbia.
The Cavaliers' season likely rests on the consistency of Pribula and his ability to orchestrate the offense under Tony Elliot.
It's the first test of the stretch, played on Oct.
3, followed by road trips to Louisville and Miami.
It leads to the finale against Clemson on Halloween.
Dabo Swinney is under pressure to get it right with Clemson after underperforming last season, going 7-6.
The Tigers have quarterback questions to answer, with veteran senior Christopher Vizzina likely the starter, though freshman Tait Reynolds has made inroads.
Vizzina sits in the most likely spot to start the season, but it doesn't mean it will be who Clemson runs out on Halloween.
Even with the quarterback questions, the Tigers have one of the better defenses in the ACC with preseason USA TODAY All-ACC selections defensive back Ashton Hampton, linebacker Sammy Brown and defensive lineman Will Heldt.
It's an important game on the schedule for both programs, and whichever comes out on top could ease some pressure on the respective programs, while upping it for a rival.
