Instead, it's getting bigger.
The noise is getting louder.
He's been linked to a bevy of teams that could be contenders this season, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors.
But, what about the San Antonio Spurs? They're also on the radar.
If James wants to join a contender, which he does, and have a real shot to close out the rest of his NBA career with a title win, the Spurs are an easy fit, because they were just in the NBA Finals.
Imagine that James was actually with the Spurs this past season.
Do you think they would have gotten run over by the New York Knicks the way that they did? Probably not.
LeBron James and the Spurs could be a strong fit So, what makes James and the Spurs such a good fit? The obvious answer is that pairing James with Victor Wembanyama would be dynamite.
James and Wembanyama would bring a mix of veteran talent, the oldest player in the NBA, with one of the youngest budding stars.
James playing next to Wembanyama would make for a beautiful NBA story.
James would serve as a mentor to the league's next generational talent.
There are other players he could mentor, but Wembanyama is really one of the youngest who's been able to break out like he is with the Spurs.
That makes him a choice student for James.
Another reason James is a good fit with the Spurs is because, as already touched on, the choice would cement him into a team that's already one of just a few contenders for the NBA title.
If James joins the Spurs, he's joining a franchise that just went to the Finals and can go again.
Also, if James wants to be the GOAT over Michael Jordan, winning an NBA title will strengthen that argument.
The Spurs give him a pathway to do that.
There are quite a few teams that could make a case for James to benefit from joining them.
The Spurs just happen to be one of the strongest.
