Week 6 College Football: Top Matchups to Watch as Contenders Emerge

With the 2026 college football regular season nearing its halfway mark, certain programs have established themselves as legitimate contenders, while others have revealed themselves as pretenders. Nevertheless, much remains to be decided in the major conferences, and the stakes could not be higher.

Below is a breakdown of the most significant and impactful games taking place across the nation today, along with why each one deserves attention.

Indiana at Nebraska

Why watch: Matt Rhule has yet to secure a victory over a ranked opponent during his tenure with the Cornhuskers, but his team enters this contest undefeated through five games for the first time in ten years. Indiana represents by far the toughest challenge Nebraska has encountered this season, and the outcome will definitively reveal which team is genuine and which is not.

When: 12 p.m. ET on Fox

Texas vs. Oklahoma

Why watch: In the annual Red River Shootout, the Longhorns hold the No. 1 ranking but still face lingering structural concerns on offense, which has yet to fully capitalize on Arch Manning's abilities. He will be tested by a formidable Sooner defense, though Oklahoma's offense appears incapable of moving the ball effectively at present.

When: 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC

UCLA at Oregon

Why watch: Bob Chesney's Bruins are undefeated and ranked, averaging nearly 45 points per game and shredding defenses for 282 rushing yards per contest. However, they have not faced a defense anywhere near Oregon's caliber. The Ducks will start Dylan Raiola, who returns fresh off a road victory over USC two weeks ago.

When: 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS

LSU at Kentucky

Why watch: No comeback last week was more impressive than Kentucky's rally at South Carolina, which improved the Wildcats to 4-1. Now they return home to face one of the SEC's most complete defenses, a unit that excels at pressuring the quarterback.

When: 7 p.m. ET on ESPN

Georgia at Alabama

Why watch: The winner of this titanic clash will have a strong argument for the No. 1 ranking in the next poll. Georgia, currently No. 2, boasts the nation's top scoring offense, but Alabama, ranked just behind the Bulldogs, can make another massive statement with its nearly 50-point-per-game average. However, Keelon Russell, Alabama's star dual-threat quarterback, has not yet faced a defense as formidable as Georgia's.

When: 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC
