The 2026 college football season is in full swing, and with the second weekend of October upon us, a pivotal Saturday looms large with several intriguing matchups on tap.
Now that more than a month of play is behind us, the true contenders are beginning to separate themselves from the pretenders, and Week 6 offers another opportunity for teams to prove their mettle.
While Sooners Wire will provide extensive coverage of Oklahoma's big game, there's no shortage of compelling action across the country. Here are the top five games to watch in Week 6.
1. Georgia at Alabama, 6:30 p.m. CT
Georgia and Alabama have engaged in numerous instant classics over the past decade, and this Saturday's showdown appears destined to join that list. Both teams enter undefeated, but only one will leave with that record intact. The Bulldogs dropped this regular-season matchup at home last year but exacted revenge in the SEC Championship Game. Head coach Kirby Smart boasts a dominant defense and an efficient offense, yet the Dawgs have yet to face a test of this magnitude. Quarterback Gunner Stockton must continue his stellar play for Georgia to emerge victorious. The Crimson Tide have historically held the upper hand in this series and are riding high after last week's demolition of Mississippi State. Now, they return home to Tuscaloosa, where head coach Kalen DeBoer and his squad aim to prove they are legitimate national title contenders. Bryant-Denny Stadium will be electric in primetime, and if quarterback Keelon Russell keeps performing at an elite level, he'll further elevate his national profile.
2. UCLA at Oregon, 2:30 p.m. CT
The Big Ten's marquee matchup of the day features UCLA and Oregon battling in Eugene. Two of the conference's newer members are eager to assert themselves as 2026 contenders. The Bruins have started undefeated under new head coach Bob Chesney, who has orchestrated a remarkable turnaround. However, this will be their toughest test to date. Quarterback Nico Iamaleava must be sharp on the road. The Ducks have bounced back from an early loss to Oklahoma State, rebounding with a win over USC two weeks ago. Now, head coach Dan Lanning's team faces another challenge at home. The Big Ten race is wide open, and this game could have major implications down the line. The key storyline is the health of quarterback Dante Moore. If he can't play, Dylan Raiola will be called upon to guide the Ducks to another win.
3. LSU at Kentucky, 6:00 p.m. CT
LSU and Kentucky each carry one loss into their Week 6 clash, and both have responded well after their respective defeats. In the SEC, though, another tough challenge is always just around the corner. The Tigers have been tested repeatedly, following a loss to Ole Miss with a win over Texas A&M. Now, new head coach Lane Kiffin takes his team back on the road, with quarterback Sam Leavitt a key player to watch in this critical matchup. The Wildcats fell to Alabama but have since notched wins over Texas A&M and South Carolina, quickly elevating the program under new head coach Will Stein. Once considered a bottom-tier SEC team, Kentucky is now competing in increasingly significant games. Quarterback Kenny Minchey has been a perfect fit for the offense, which will face a stout defense on Saturday night in Lexington.
4. Indiana at Nebraska, 11:00 a.m. CT
Indiana and Nebraska are the other two unbeaten teams in the Big Ten, guaranteeing that one will leave Lincoln with a perfect record intact on Saturday afternoon. The Hoosiers have been a juggernaut, undefeated since 2024. The defending national champions have become a well-oiled machine, but that machine faces its first real test this week. Head coach Curt Cignetti has another talented quarterback in Josh Hoover, and his team aims to keep rolling. The Cornhuskers have yet to be truly tested, but that changes in Week 6. This is the biggest game for the program in quite some time, and head coach Matt Rhule's squad could send shockwaves through college football with a home win. Against an opponent like this, mistakes are costly, and quarterback Anthony Colandrea must protect the football and avoid turnovers for the upset to materialize.
5. Texas vs. Oklahoma, 2:30 p.m. CT
Texas and Oklahoma renew their annual neutral-site rivalry at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas for the Red River Rivalry. While this year's game may lack the hype of some past editions, the environment is always unpredictable. The Longhorns are undefeated, boasting impressive wins over Ohio State and Tennessee. Head coach Steve Sarkisian's team looks like one of the SEC's best, with quarterback Arch Manning leading the way for the league's third unbeaten squad. The Sooners, meanwhile, stumbled through September with losses to Michigan and Georgia. Now, another big game awaits head coach Brent Venables and his team, who cannot afford to lose three straight and four of five in this rivalry. Quarterback John Mateer must play better for OU to have a chance against the Longhorns, but a stout defense will do everything possible to keep the Sooners in the game.
