Wini Silva (Braga) has proven to be a rising prospect in South America for Brazil's men's basketball squad during the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifiers.

Recently, the 6-foot-9 forward received the inaugural Rising Star award from FIBA after he averaged 8.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.0 block per game over three contests in the group stage.

Silva, who has spent the past two years with Minas in the National Basketball Brazil professional league, logged 41 combined minutes against Chile, Colombia, and Venezuela with a pair of double-digit scoring outings.

The 21-year-old put up 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 blocks in an international career-best against Venezuela back in February, which caught the attention of several college basketball programs, including Washington Huskies coach Danny Sprinkle and associate head coach Andy Hill.

View this post on Instagram In early May, the talented Brazilian big man committed to UW , the first of three new international players set to join Sprinkle's team for the upcoming 2026-27 season, but Silva and Croatian forward Boris Tisma have yet to arrive in Seattle, while Australian guard Tristan Devers began practicing with the program last month.

Around the time of Silva's verbal pledge to the Big Ten program, the NCAA adopted drastically different rules with respect to international players who have been playing professionally at any level.

Silva received compensation above the minimum salary playing for Minas over multiple seasons, different from Devers, who signed a developmental contract with the Brisbane Bullets, which could be one reason why the process is slower for the Brazilian.

Minas has another young promising player, Uruguayan guard Lucas Rodriguez, in a similar circumstance, and the Brazilian club has not been vocal about either situation.

It's expected Silva's situation could take at least one more turn before mid-August, if not sooner.
