Warriors' Kristaps Porzingis Returns to Practice Facility, But Injury Mystery Deepens

Kristaps Porzingis has rejoined the Golden State Warriors, but his return to game action remains uncertain. The team announced that Porzingis was back at the practice facility on Tuesday, Oct. 13, though he continues to be sidelined indefinitely after sitting out all of training camp and the preseason.

Team officials did not provide a timeline for when Porzingis might resume practicing or participating in on-court workouts. The 31-year-old center has a well-documented history of injuries throughout his NBA career, and his current situation is particularly troubling because doctors have not yet found a long-term solution that would enable him to return to full basketball activities.

In an effort to calm fans, Porzingis addressed the speculation on social media Wednesday, coinciding with the Warriors' announcement. He dismissed rumors about his health and asserted that he is "getting better and better."

"I appreciate all the internet doctors trying to diagnose and help, but I'm in the best hands. So everyone can relax now .. and I dont have hiv or aids," Porzingis posted on X.

Injury Update and Team Meeting

According to the Warriors' statement, Porzingis met with General Manager Mike Dunleavy and Vice President of Player Health and Performance Dr. Rick Celebrini on Tuesday. The team did not disclose details of the discussion but indicated that Porzingis is out due to "the same health-related matter" and will now be around the team.

Porzingis also shared his thoughts on Wednesday: "I'm working with doctors and experts to figure out how to be fully back to good health asap. Honestly, I'm getting better and better. I just have to stay patient, and I believe I'll be feeling great again soon. It has definitely been frustrating dealing with some health stuff that you can't exactly pinpoint, on top of injuries throughout my career, so it has added up for sure, but we will get through it."

Background and Contract

Porzingis was acquired by the Warriors last February at the NBA trade deadline in a deal with the Atlanta Hawks. He appeared in only 15 of a possible 27 regular-season games after the trade. He has been sidelined at various points by a lingering respiratory illness that causes a sharp increase in heart rate upon standing, severe fatigue, and dizziness.

Golden State brought in Porzingis to address their center position, providing more size and versatility to defend the interior against other big men and penetrating perimeter players. In June, he signed a two-year, $40 million contract extension to remain with the Warriors.

During the 2025-26 season, Porzingis averaged 16.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 32 combined games for the Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors. Over his 11 NBA seasons since being drafted by the New York Knicks in 2015, he has missed at least 25 games eight times.
