Warriors’ Draymond Green contract news could end up being bad news for Golden State

The Golden State Warriors have found out over the past few seasons that getting older isn't something they can control.

The Warriors were once the best team in the NBA by a wide margin, thanks to Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.

Now, with just Curry and Green on the roster, times are much different, and the Green situation is perhaps one of the more interesting in the NBA.

There have been some rumblings that he could be traded over the past year, though that doesn't seem very likely to happen.

Still, there's a sense that the Warriors want Green to take less money than he might be looking for, as the latest report suggests.

The Warriors Draymond Green situation is still playing out, but Green has until June 29 to decide whether to exercise his player option worth $27.6 million.

The Warriors would like Green to opt out and take a lesser deal spread over multiple years, but ESPN reported Green is likely to opt in on the final year of his contract.

Green wants to remain with the Warriors and the Warriors want to keep him.

But if he opts in, there is a side effecthe would be playing under a very easily traded expiring contract," wrote Heavy's Sean Deveney.

If the Warriors go to Green with a plan to improve their roster so he can just take a bit less money, or spread it out over a few years, I don't think it's crazy to say he'll do so.

Green seems to be a guy who really wants to win, and while he's done that for a lot of his career, I still think he'd be okay with at least taking some money off the table to ensure he has a chance to go out on top once again.
