Vrabel Quips About 'Contractual' Brady Catch-Up as Patriots Legend Returns to Foxborough

When Tom Brady makes his anticipated return to Gillette Stadium in Week 9, Mike Vrabel has humorously suggested that a meeting between the two is practically mandatory. The New England Patriots head coach told reporters that catching up with his former teammate is something he is contractually required to do, though he delivered the line with a playful tone.

Brady is set to be on hand as a FOX Sports broadcaster for the Patriots' clash with the Green Bay Packers, a role that brings him back to the venue where he enjoyed so much success. Vrabel, however, did not seem overly enthusiastic about the prospect of an in-person reunion when the topic was raised.

A Lighthearted Exchange

Speaking to the media, Vrabel quipped, “I think I'm required contractually to catch up with him at some point,” before adding, “I'm sure it'll be a Zoom. I'm sure they won't show up here; I'm sure it will be on Zoom.” The remarks drew laughs, but Vrabel also took care to emphasize that there is no animosity between the two men.

He described Brady as a friend and insisted that their bond would endure regardless of Brady's current professional commitments. The pair spent eight seasons together in New England, forming a relationship during one of the most decorated stretches in franchise history.

Texts Exchanged, but No In-Person Meeting

Vrabel confirmed that the two had exchanged text messages following Super Bowl LX, though they have not met face-to-face since. Their relationship drew some attention after Brady remarked that he had no vested interest in the Super Bowl between the Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, a comment that reportedly left some former teammates and fans feeling disappointed that he did not openly back New England.

However, Brady's minority ownership stake in the Las Vegas Raiders and his broadcasting role with FOX Sports gave him valid reasons to maintain neutrality.

Brady Braces for Emotional Return

Brady himself has acknowledged that stepping back into Gillette Stadium will be an emotional experience. “It'll be certainly emotional,” he told FOX Sports' Colin Cowherd, reflecting on the memories he created at the venue.

With Brady back in Foxborough and Vrabel preparing to greet his old teammate, the Patriots' matchup with Green Bay promises a reunion that extends well beyond the action on the field.
