Vikings Add Odell Beckham Jr. and Jeshaun Jones to Practice Squad Amid Receiver Injuries

The Minnesota Vikings have added wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Jeshaun Jones to their practice squad, the team announced on Wednesday. The signings address a banged-up receiving group that features Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison.

Jefferson suffered a sprained ankle in the Vikings' 27-20 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 27. He was held out of practice last week and did not play in Minnesota's win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday in Minneapolis.

In that Week 4 triumph, Addison paced Vikings wide receivers with four receptions for 52 yards. Tight end T.J. Hockenson led all Minnesota pass catchers with 13 grabs for 119 yards. Addison and Jauan Jennings saw the most snaps among wide receivers in Week 4. Tai Felton, Myles Price, and Jones—who had been promoted to the active roster—also took offensive snaps against the Dolphins.

The Vikings waived Jones on Monday but chose to re-sign him. Jones, who mainly contributes on special teams, is still seeking his first career catch.

Beckham, who joined the New York Giants last offseason, did not record a reception in three games this season and was released last week. A three-time Pro Bowl selection, Beckham missed the 2025 season due to an NFL suspension and because he went unsigned. Over the first 122 appearances of his NFL career, he has amassed 575 catches for 7,987 receiving yards and 60 total touchdowns.

The Vikings (4-0) are set to take on the New Orleans Saints (1-3) at 1 p.m. EDT Sunday in New Orleans.

Key Analysis

The Vikings' decision to bolster their practice squad with Beckham and Jones reflects the team's need for depth after injuries struck their top receivers. Beckham, a veteran with a proven track record, could provide a reliable target if he regains form, while Jones offers special teams value. With a perfect record so far, Minnesota aims to maintain its momentum against the Saints.
