Arizona Cardinals running back Tyler Allgeier has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his standout performance in the team's Week 8 upset victory over the Dallas Cowboys, the team announced. Allgeier rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown on just 11 carries and added five receptions for 44 yards and another score through the air.
This marks the first career Player of the Week selection for Allgeier. He is the third Cardinals player to earn the honor this season, joining kicker Chad Ryland (Week 6) and wide receiver Simi Fehoko (Week 1), both of whom were named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week. The Cardinals' three weekly awards this season are their most since 2021, when they had seven.
Allgeier's 147 rushing yards and 191 scrimmage yards were both career highs. He recorded his first career game with both a rushing and receiving touchdown and broke off the two longest runs of his career, scoring from 63 yards out and adding a 52-yard carry. His 191 scrimmage yards led the NFL in Week 8, and his 63-yard touchdown run stands as the longest rushing score in the league this season.
According to the team's media relations department, Allgeier became just the fourth player in franchise history to record at least 185 scrimmage yards, one rushing touchdown, and one receiving touchdown in the same game. He joins Ottis Anderson (Nov. 4, 1979, vs. Minnesota), Wayne Morris (Nov. 6, 1977, at Minnesota), and Ollie Matson (Oct. 20, 1957, at Washington and Nov. 21, 1954, vs. Washington).
In the second half alone, Allgeier accumulated 184 yards (143 rushing, 41 receiving) and two touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving). He became the first player in franchise history to post 180+ yards from scrimmage, a rushing touchdown, and a receiving touchdown all in the second half of a game.
Allgeier ignited the Cardinals' comeback in the third quarter with a career-long 63-yard run. On Arizona's next possession, his very next carry went for 52 yards. He became the first NFL player to gain 50+ yards on two consecutive carries within a game since Tampa Bay running back Doug Martin had touchdown runs of 67 and 70 yards on Nov. 4, 2012, at Oakland. Allgeier is also the first Cardinals player to accomplish the feat since running back LeShon Johnson had touchdown runs of 56 and 70 yards on Sept. 22, 1996, at New Orleans.
With running back Jeremiyah Love out for the foreseeable future, Arizona will rely heavily on Allgeier in the coming weeks.
Key Analysis
Allgeier's explosive outing not only secured a crucial win but also etched his name in the Cardinals' record books. His ability to break off long runs and find the end zone both on the ground and through the air makes him a dual-threat backfield option. As Arizona navigates the absence of Love, Allgeier's workload and production will be critical to the team's offensive success.
