Troy reliever selected by New York Mets in MLB draft

Troy relief pitcher Zach Crotchfelt was selected by the New York Mets in the 2026 MLB draft on Sunday.

Stubbs, a senior from Jackson, N.J., was taken with the 420th overall pick in the 14th round.

He was the third Trojans player selected in this years draft, after shortstop Aaron Piasecki went to Houston in the eighth round and pitcher Benjamin Stubbs was chosen by San Diego in the ninth round.

Crotchfelt, who previously pitched at Auburn and Texas Tech, was arguably the Trojans most-effective pitcher in 2026.

In 29 appearances (28 in relief), the 6-foot-3 left-hander posted a 7-3 record and a 3.49 ERA, with 81 strikeouts in 67 innings.

Crotchfelt helped Troy reach the College World Series for the first time in program history in 2026.

6 in the final Baseball America Top 25 poll, their highest season-ending ranking since moving up to Division I in 2001.
