The Atlanta Falcons had little trouble moving the ball against the New Orleans Saints' defense on Monday night, cruising to a 45-24 victory. According to ESPN analyst Troy Aikman, Saints defensive coordinator Brandon Staley anticipated the challenges his unit would face.
During the Monday Night Football broadcast, Aikman remarked, "He doesn't have any answers, and I think he knew it when we talked to him. I think he knew. He didn't tell us, but the guys that are out, some of their big edge rushers and guys who can play the run and set the edge, they're not on the field."
New Orleans was missing several crucial defensive pieces, including edge rusher Carl Granderson, his backup Anfernee Jennings, and linebacker Kaden Elliss. Their absence paved the way for a dominant performance by Atlanta's offense.
Running back Bijan Robinson exploded for 145 yards and two touchdowns, while Brian Robinson Jr. added 62 rushing yards and three scores. Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. was efficient through the air, completing 15 of 20 passes for 223 yards and a touchdown.
The Saints' defense has been one of the league's weakest this season, and the injuries on Monday night only exacerbated their issues. Staley will aim for a better showing when New Orleans faces the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
