Travis Kelce's Week 4 Dud: Why Fantasy Managers Should Hold Tight

Travis Kelce's Week 4 Dud: Why Fantasy Managers Should Hold Tight

The Kansas City Chiefs are one of four remaining undefeated teams as they head into Week 5, but star tight end Travis Kelce had a forgettable Week 4, managing just 3.5 fantasy points in the win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Before that quiet outing, Kelce had been one of the most dependable fantasy tight ends through the first three weeks of the season.

Even though Kelce is coming off a disappointing performance, there are several reasons why fantasy managers should remain patient and hold onto him.

All statistics in this article are provided by PFF and Sumer Sports unless otherwise noted. Fantasy rankings and point totals are courtesy of FantasyPros.

Fantasy Recap of Travis Kelce After Week 4

Despite logging only 2 receptions for 15 yards and 3.5 fantasy points in Week 4, the All-Pro tight end still ranks as TE7 in fantasy points per game (13.2).

Kelce reached double-digit fantasy points in each of his first three games in 2026, including a 25.1-point explosion in Week 2.

After showing signs of decline last season, Kelce appears rejuvenated in what could be his final year.

Among 24 tight ends with 15 or more targets, Kelce ranks second in yards per reception (15.4), first in yards after catch per reception (10.5), and fourth in yards per route run (2.18).

In addition to Kelce's impressive metrics, quarterback Patrick Mahomes looks to be returning to his elite form after a season-ending knee injury in 2025.

Mahomes currently ranks fourth in yards per attempt (8.1), fourth in adjusted completion percentage (78.6%), and ninth-lowest in pressure-to-sack rate (12.8%) among 26 quarterbacks with 100 or more dropbacks.

Buy, Sell, or Hold Verdict: Hold Travis Kelce

Unless fantasy managers already roster one of the other elite tight end options, Kelce is a hold candidate entering Week 5.

Beyond Kelce playing in a Kansas City passing attack that looks highly effective again, wide receivers Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton both suffered injuries in Week 4 against the Raiders.

Rice pulled up with a non-contact hamstring injury after making a reception and did not return in the Chiefs' 30-27 win over the Raiders.

Meanwhile, Thornton sustained a dislocated ankle after getting his ankle rolled on following a long reception in the second half.

There are reports that Kansas City could express interest in reuniting with Tyreek Hill amid the team's injuries in the wide receiver room.

While Hill was once a fantasy star as Mahomes' No. 1 target, he is now 32 years old and is not expected to return until November at the earliest from a season-ending knee injury he suffered in 2025 with the Miami Dolphins.

With all of that in mind, Kelce could be in store for more usage in the coming weeks, making him someone to maintain confidence in moving forward.

If the person rostering Kelce is concerned about his output in Week 4 and/or the fact that he has a bye week in Week 5, then this is also a potential buy-low window.
