Tkachuk brothers to reunite in NHL after bombshell trade following Team USA success

The Florida Panthers are on the verge of securing a trade for Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk, meaning he would play alongside his brother Matthew in the NHL.

According to The Athletic, the Panthers will send four draft picks to the Senators, including three first-rounders for the 26-year-old.

The Tkachuk brothers were both on the Team USA Olympic roster that won gold in men's hockey in February and have both risen in stardom in recent years.

Matthew Tkachuk helped Florida win back-to-back Stanley Cups, while Brady Tkachuk has become well known for his personality and physicality on the ice.

The brothers will now be reunited in Florida, and the Senators will be compensated heavily.

9 pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, as well as the No.

25 pick, which Florida recently acquired in a trade that sent Mackie Samoskevich to the Seattle Kraken.

Ottawa will also receive a 2029 first-round pick and a 2030 second-round pick.

The trade means that the Senators will have three first-round picks this year, with the draft beginning on June 26.

Tkachuk made it clear when signing his seven-year, $57.5 million contract with the Senators in 2021 that Florida was one of his preferred destinations for the future.

Tkachuk listed Florida, Vegas, Carolina, and Minnesota on his list, though he signed a full no-movement clause.

He still has two years remaining on his deal with an average annual value of $8.2 million, but will be eligible for an extension in July 2027.

It's been a rollercoaster tenure in Ottawa for Tkachuk, as he was adored by the fans and was named team captain in 2021.

Tkachuk also helped the Senators reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs in each of the last two seasons, though Ottawa exited in the first round both times.

Tkachuk has 463 points in 572 NHL games for the Senators, and scored 213 goals in that time.

While he's seen as a gifted American left-winger, he's also not afraid to put his body on the line, becoming known for his big hits and willingness to drop the gloves.

The Panthers are already a physical team, but should Matthew Tkachuk take a dirty hit, it's likely that Brady could find himself fighting more frequently.

The trade comes months after the Tkachuk brothers became national heroes for guiding Team USA to victory over Canada at the Winter Olympics.

Matthew Tkachuk faced backlash, along with several teammates, over their relationship with Donald Trump after winning gold, as Team USA was invited to the White House.

Tkachuk has met with Trump frequently in recent years, after winning back-to-back Stanley Cups.

Although the Panthers put up a weak title defense in 2025-26, ending any dreams of a three-peat, Brady Tkachuk will bolster a roster that's still in win-now mode.

He has also yet to win an NHL Playoff series, but will need to adapt to a new culture when arriving in Florida.
