Former Kentucky Wildcats standout Cason Wallace is staying put in Oklahoma City. According to a report from Shams Charania, Wallace has signed a five-year, $139 million rookie-scale contract extension with the Thunder.
Since being selected in the first round of the 2023 NBA Draft, Wallace has developed into a valuable contributor for Oklahoma City. During the previous season, he came off the bench and averaged 8.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game.
However, Wallace's greatest impact has come on the defensive end. Over the past two seasons, he has averaged nearly two steals per game and established himself as one of Oklahoma City's most dependable perimeter defenders—and one of the best in the entire league. That reputation was reinforced when he was named to the 2025-26 NBA All-Defensive Second Team.
Following offseason roster changes—including a trade that sent Luguentz Dort to the Atlanta Hawks—Wallace is poised for an expanded role with the Thunder. The contract extension makes it clear that the organization views him as a cornerstone piece for the long term.
Congratulations to the former Kentucky Wildcat on this significant achievement.
