The Indianapolis Colts selected Anthony Richardson with the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, envisioning him as the franchise's new cornerstone. However, after three seasons, Richardson has appeared in just 17 contests and has increasingly distanced himself from the starting quarterback role.
As he enters his fourth year, a fresh start elsewhere could be precisely what he needs to justify his draft status. Richardson's elite arm strength and rushing ability have always hinted at high fantasy upside, but an organization must first be willing to take a chance on him.
Here are three ideal landing spots for Anthony Richardson that could reignite his fantasy outlook.
Arizona Cardinals
Arizona has endured a tumultuous offseason filled with quarterback drama. After parting ways with Kyler Murray, the Cardinals handed the offense to Jacoby Brissett for the remainder of the season. While Brissett's fantasy numbers were respectable, his on-field performance was lackluster, and the team went 1-11 with him under center before the offseason began.
The situation escalated when Brissett held out for a contract that would pay him starting-caliber money if he were to start in 2026. After deliberation, Arizona granted that deal, but it doesn't guarantee improved production. Richardson could step into the QB1 role if Brissett fails to meet expectations. Though a competition with rookie Carson Beck is possible, Richardson's prior NFL experience gives him an edge.
More importantly, Arizona could maximize Richardson's fantasy strengths. He has averaged nearly 14 yards per carry in his career, offering both the team and fantasy managers the explosive production they crave. Pair that with a supporting cast featuring Marvin Harrison Jr., Trey McBride, and Jeremiah Love, and Richardson would have far more support than he had in Indianapolis. Even if his passing remains inconsistent, his rushing ability alone could revive his fantasy stock in the desert.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Like Arizona, Tampa Bay faced contract disputes this offseason. Starter Baker Mayfield publicly sought a contract extension before training camp, but as the weeks passed, a deal became increasingly unlikely. Now that camp is underway, both sides must wait until 2027 to negotiate again.
However, the Buccaneers are not tied to Mayfield long-term. His contract expires after the 2026 season, and unless Tampa Bay improves its offer, he may not return. Instead of committing a large contract to an unhappy quarterback, the team could take a cheaper swing on Richardson. From a fantasy perspective, the fit is enticing.
Throwing to Emeka Egbuka and Chris Godwin would give Richardson one of the deepest supporting casts he has ever had, while his rushing ability would open up the playbook further. He could take deep shots to elite receivers or barrel ahead behind a Buccaneers offensive line returning at full strength. If Tampa Bay can help him take even a small step forward as a passer, Richardson could become a fantasy force for years.
