MANHATTAN, Kan.
(WIBW) - K-State womens basketball had a handful of openings on staff this offseason, including a position it has never had before.
Enter Dylan Geissert and Ross Metheny, two guys whose hires signify a shift in the way the Wildcats will recruit.
Metheny is the first general manager in program history.
A former college quarterback at Virginia and South Alabama, Metheny served as a graduate assistant on Bill Snyders staff after his playing career came to a close.
Following a few years working as a sports businessman, including locally with Learfield/K-State Sports Properties, Metheny is returning to a college coaching staff.
Its a new position.
So, its not something where there was this layer of applicants who have this experience, K-State head coach Jeff Mittie explained.
Which is what made Metheny the perfect fit.
The neat thing about this opportunity is its a blend of all the worlds Ive experienced, Metheny told 13 SPORTS.
Metheny will be tasked with leading K-States roster management, NIL, and revenue sharing strategies while also having a hand in player acquisition and retention.
Geissert, a native Kansan, will also work in recruiting.
Mitties newest assistant, the former Emporia State and Kansas WBB student coach says he was waiting for an opportunity to return home.
Everybody has their list of schools theyd love to work for.
This was right at the top of my list, Geissert told 13 SPORTS.
I wanted somebody with recruiting connections.
I wanted someone like Dylan that could fill a role on the offensive side of the basketball, Mittie said.
Hes done an excellent job at North Dakota State.
Given their backgrounds locally, both Geissert and Metheny say landing local talent on the recruiting trail will be a major point of emphasis.
Theres always that focus on Kansas, Metheny said.
We know that piece of the fanbase and that pride of Kansas is always important.
Its a really cool opportunity to represent your home state and where youre from and your people, Geissert added.
When you get the opportunity to do that, I feel like its something youve got to take.
