Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun and others are reporting that pending UFA Patrick Kane, once thought likely to be returning to Detroit, is now considering his options.

NEW Rumblings for @TheAthletic , only 8 pending UFAs scored 20 or more goals this past season.

Alex Tuch, Anthony Mantha, Alex Ovechkin, Bobby McMann, Viktor Arvidsson, Vladimir Tarasenko, Darren Raddysh and Jack Roslovic.

Diving into where things stand with some of those players....

Pierre LeBrun (@PierreVLeBrun) June 18, 2026 The Kane issue is hardly surprising.

A 37-year-old future Hall of Famer hopes for as much certainty as he can find, and the Larkin saga is overflowing with uncertainty.

The Red Wings came into the summer needing one scoring winger and a scoring center.

If they dont receive a center in a trade for Larkin, they will need a No.

1 and No.

2 center.

If Kane doesnt return, they will need two top six wingers.

And there could be more danger ahead.

If Patrick Kane doesnt come back, how will Alex DeBrincat view his 2027 free agency? The Red Wings would like to re-sign him this summer, but why would he sign before he sees how the puzzle pieces come together? GM Steve Yzermans managerial style is to make decisions when the timing works best for his team, but he does have to consider whether he wants to trade Larkin before the draft.

The advantage of that could be landing a first-round pick in a Larkin deal.

They traded their first round to St.

Louis in the Justin Faulk trade.

For example, if Larkin makes a deal with Florida, he could get the No.

9.

He could use that to land a significant player, maybe Swedish center Viggo Bjorck.

In Case You Missed It Former Red Wings player is a surprising favorite to land an Ontario Hockey League job.

Detroit legend Nicklas Lidstrom agrees to serve as an advisor for Swedish National Team.

Prospect goalie Michal Postava believes hes ready for Detroits backup job Red Wings Extra It seems to be a fait accompli that Sebastian Cossa, 23, will soon be traded.

But the Grand Rapids Griffins website has a Year in Review story about how impressive he was this season.

Here are facts highlighted by the Griffins: Cossa was 26-8-4 in the regular season with five shutouts, a 2.33 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage in 39 games.

Cossa showed career-high numbers in GAA, save percentage, wins and shutouts.

He ranked among the AHL leaders in GAA (5th), save percentage (6th), wins (3rd), games played (T12th), minutes played (2,292:25, 12th) and shutouts (2nd).

Cossa enjoyed a career-high 10-game win streak from Nov.

25-Dec.

27, showing a 1.51 GAA and a .939 save percentage, and a 14-game point streak from Nov.

25-Jan.

13 (12-0-2).

It would be a net loss for the organization if GM Steve Yzerman cant get a reasonable return for first-round pick with potential to be an NHL No.

1 goalie.
