Texas A&M's Season on the Brink: Position-by-Position Grades After South Carolina Setback

The Texas A&M Aggies' 2026 campaign took another hit, falling to 4-5 after a loss to South Carolina that seemed to mirror the team's season-long struggles. With three games remaining, two against top-15 opponents, the Aggies are now in real danger of missing a bowl game, and the Week 10 performance offered little evidence that a turnaround is imminent.

Here's a breakdown of how each position group performed in the defeat.

Quarterback

Marcel Reed again failed to find a rhythm under center, completing 25 of 43 passes for 251 yards with no touchdowns. His 58% completion rate was his fourth-lowest of the season, and he missed a potential game-tying score in the final seconds. Even against a South Carolina defense ranked in the bottom half nationally in most passing categories, the Aggies' aerial attack remained stagnant. Grade: F

Running Backs

Texas A&M recorded its sixth 100-yard rushing game of the year, powered by Rebuen Owens, who looked like a transformed player. Owens averaged 7.2 yards per carry, while KJ Edwards provided a solid change of pace. Grade: A-

Wide Receivers

The passing game continued to sputter, and Mario Craver got banged up, but Isaiah Horton delivered one of his best performances since arriving in College Station. Horton recorded three receptions of 15+ yards and made the most of limited opportunities. Grade: B-

Offensive Line

Pass protection remains a concern, but the line did a better job opening holes in the run game, allowing the backs to break off chunk plays. It was one of their stronger run-blocking efforts recently, though major work is still needed in pass pro. Grade: C

Defensive Line

The front four provided consistent pressure, led by Bryce Perry-Wright, who recorded a sack and led the team with 1.5 sacks. TJ Searcy added two quarterback hurries as the Aggies totaled three on the day. Grade: A

Linebackers

Daymion Sanford and Ray shouldered most of the production and helped limit explosive runs. Containing quarterback Sellers, who was hampered by a lower-body injury, kept the Aggies in the game until South Carolina's final score. Grade: B

Secondary

The defensive backs gave up some big plays but largely kept things in front of them, holding the Gamecocks to just one touchdown—a 1-yard plunge. Grade: B+

Special Teams

David Olano missed his first field goal of the season and also saw a fake field-goal attempt fail. The miss was costly, though Olano accounted for the team's only points. Grade: C-
