As the Texas A&M men's basketball team prepares for its second year under head coach Bucky McMillan, the Aggies are setting their sights on a deeper postseason run after reaching the NCAA Tournament last March. The ultimate goal: the program's first-ever Elite Eight appearance.
That ambition is fueled by a mix of returning contributors and a highly touted transfer class, headlined by former Kansas State guard PJ Haggerty. During his lone season with the Wildcats, Haggerty posted impressive numbers—23.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game—and now the Crosby, Texas native returns to his home state, where he is expected to shoulder a major scoring load in his single season in College Station.
Joining Haggerty are six other transfer portal additions, along with forwards Mackenzie Mgbako and Zach Clemence, giving the Aggies a roster rich in NBA-caliber talent. Another name to watch is transfer forward Jalen Shelley, who is trending toward a starting role.
Despite the influx of talent, the SEC's depth is undeniable. Texas A&M was projected to finish ninth in the conference, and Haggerty was the only Aggie to earn All-SEC recognition, landing on the Third Team—a reflection of both his newcomer status and his critical importance to the team's postseason aspirations.
The Aggies will tip off the 2026-2027 season against Alabama State at Reed Arena on Tuesday, November 3.
