Texas A&M QB ranked Top 10 in On3's SEC quarterback rankings

Texas A&M QB ranked Top 10 in On3's SEC quarterback rankings Texas A&M's chances of making it back to the College Football Playoff will hinge on redshirt junior quarterback taking the proverbial "next step" under center, specifically improving his accuracy and touch as a pocket passer, while making better decisions in "gotta have it" situations when the game is on the line.

Last season, Texas A&M's historic 11-0 start was marred by poor play during the Aggies' final two games of the season, starting with losing to rival Texas 27-17 on the road after leading at halftime, followed by losing to eventual national runner-up Miami in the first round of the CFP 10-3, which can be blamed on Marcel Reed's poor play, which included two interceptions.

Still, Reed's career year should not be overshadowed after the Tennessee native threw for 3,169 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, combined with nearly 500 rushing yards and six scores, and under new OC Holmon Wiggins and quarterbacks coach Joey Lynch, Reed's trajectory is on the up and up.

Compared to the rest of the SEC signal callers, Reed is still considered one of the conference's top quarterbacks, but with new additions from the transfer portal, including LSU QB Sam Leavitt, On3's Chris Low placed Reed at No.

7 in his latest SEC quarterback rankings as we enter the final stretch of the offseason.

Compared to previous SEC QB rankings this offseason, Marcel Reed at No.

7 isn't surprising, and is more than very given the talent in front of him.

"The scouting report on Marcel Reed is a mixed bag.

Hes had some major highs with a few lows sprinkled in going back to his first meaningful action in the Texas Bowl as a redshirt freshman in 2023.

Reed, a redshirt junior, is right there at the top in SEC experience among quarterbacks with 27 appearances and 21 starts.

Reed passed for 3,169 yards and rushed for 493 yards last season.

He finished with 25 touchdown passes and six touchdown runs.

Hes an outstanding creator and has a lot going for him, including playoff experience.

Where Reed can take it to the next level is by becoming a more consistent passer.

His 12 interceptions last season tied for the second most in the SEC, four of those in the Aggies two losses against Texas and Miami to close the season.

The two interceptions against the Longhorns both came in the fourth quarter.

Even so, the jump Reed made in his second season as a starter suggests theres another one coming in 2026, and Texas A&M coach Mike Elko said Reed has a much better understanding of what it takes to be a quarterback in the SEC.

Reed will be working under a new offensive coordinator after Collin Klein left to take the Kansas State head job.

Holmon Wiggins was promoted from receivers coach to replace Klein." Avoiding turnovers, especially late in the season, is critical, and, going off of Low's analysis, Reed's second full starting season should result in fixing the remaining mechanical issues and becoming a plus player when counted on after watching and learning from last season's two losses.
