Texas A&M baseball has added a significant piece to its future pitching staff, as right-hander Jordan Ayala has committed to the Aggies, according to a report from Over-Slot Baseball. Ayala, a standout at Norco High School in Southern California, is considered one of the premier arms in the 2027 recruiting class.
Earlier this year, Ayala confirmed that he would reclassify from the 2028 class to 2027, accelerating his timeline to college. Over-Slot Baseball ranks him as the No. 72 overall player in the 2027 class, highlighting his breaking ball and his ability to throw it for strikes.
Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 185 pounds, Ayala provides Texas A&M with another high-upside arm to develop. His fastball has been clocked as high as 97 mph, and he consistently worked in the mid-90s during the Perfect Game National Showcase. His curveball has also reached the upper 80s with a spin rate of up to 2,847 rpm.
Ayala continued to impress against elite high school competition at the MLB High School All-American Game. In that event, he struck out two batters in a perfect inning, reached 96 mph, and accounted for seven of the game's ten highest recorded spin rates.
His performance at Norco demonstrates that his impressive pitch data translates into game situations. Last season, Ayala posted an 8-2 record with a 0.74 ERA and 91 strikeouts. According to MaxPreps, he has recorded 174 strikeouts over 129 varsity innings in his career.
Beyond his pitching, Ayala has also contributed as a two-way player. At the plate last season, he hit .390 with nine doubles, four home runs, and 26 RBIs, finishing with a .451 on-base percentage and a 1.071 OPS. Cal-Hi Sports selected him to its first-team all-state roster and named him State Junior of the Year after his reclassification.
Ayala has one high school season remaining before he is scheduled to arrive in College Station. His velocity, command, and ability to miss bats make him a key addition to Michael Earley and Nolan Cain's 2027 recruiting class.
Key Analysis
Ayala's commitment represents a major win for Texas A&M's recruiting efforts. His combination of high velocity, sharp breaking ball, and proven production at the high school level suggests he could develop into a frontline starter for the Aggies. The fact that he reclassified to 2027 only adds to his value, as he will bring advanced maturity and experience to the program.
