Tate Southisene Turns Heads in Arizona Fall League with Glove and Bat

Tate Southisene, a highly regarded infielder in the Atlanta Braves organization, is demonstrating his all-around abilities in the Arizona Fall League this autumn. The 20-year-old, who is ranked as the Braves' No. 3 prospect by MLB Pipeline, recently turned heads with a standout defensive effort.

During a fall league contest, a sharp line drive was hit directly at Southisene at shortstop. The ball initially glanced off his glove and popped into the air, but the young infielder reacted instantly, diving to make a spectacular catch. That play underscored the quick reflexes and athleticism that have made him a rising star in the minors.

Southisene's offensive performance in the fall league has been equally impressive. In 13 games, the 2025 first-round draft selection is batting .341 (15-for-44) with four RBIs, five stolen bases, 11 walks, and 14 runs scored, though he has yet to hit a home run. His overall production has made him a player to watch as he continues his development.

Key Analysis

Selected 22nd overall in the 2025 MLB Draft out of high school, Southisene played just 15 games at the Single-A level last year before accelerating through the minor league system in 2026. Across 90 games at three levels, the 5-foot-11 infielder posted a .278 average with 12 home runs, 46 RBIs, and 45 stolen bases. He began the 2026 campaign with the Single-A Augusta GreenJackets, where he hit .297 with eight homers, 30 RBIs, and 36 steals in 51 games, earning a promotion to High-A in June. With the High-A Rome Emperors, he batted .255 with four home runs, 16 RBIs, and nine stolen bases in 38 games. By late July, he had advanced to Double-A, but his season ended abruptly when he fractured his right wrist after being hit by a pitch in his first game with the Columbus Clingstones.

That injury likely means Southisene will begin the 2027 season back at Double-A. However, if he continues to build on his Arizona Fall League success, a promotion to Triple-A could be on the horizon next year. Braves fans have every reason to be excited about his potential.
