A Dallas Stars icon has a new role in the front office of a Western Conference rival.
The St.
Louis Blues have hired Sergei Zubov as an advisor to hockey operations, the team announced Friday.
Since finishing his NHL playing career in 2010, Zubov, a native of Russia, has held a variety of roles in coaching.
He served as the head coach of the KHL's SKA Saint Petersburg in 2015-16, as well as HK Sochi (2017-19, 2024-25), Dinamo Riga (2021) and the Russian U-20 team (2021-22).
Stars fans will remember Zubov, a defenseman as a player, for helping the team capture its first Stanley Cup in 1999.
He played the final 12 seasons of his NHL career in Dallas after winning his first Stanley Cup with the New York Rangers in 1994, totaling 549 points (111 goals, 438 assists) for the Stars.
He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2019 and had his No.
56 jersey retired by the Stars in 2022.
Zubov has some prior experience working in NHL front offices.
He was a team consultant for the Blues in 2012-13 and was named a senior consultant to hockey operations for the Stars in 2019.
