Stanford Lands Elite 2028 QB Hunter Fujikawa, Beating Out 28 Schools

Stanford football's 2028 recruiting class has begun with a major addition: four-star quarterback Hunter Fujikawa from Mililani High School in Mililani, Hawaii, who announced his commitment to the Cardinal on Monday.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound junior is ranked as the No. 13 quarterback and the top overall prospect in Hawaii for the class, according to 247Sports. He selected Stanford from a pool of 28 Division I offers, with Ole Miss, Oregon, and UCLA among the programs he turned down.

Fujikawa becomes the first four-star quarterback Stanford has secured in four recruiting cycles. The previous one was Elijah Brown in the 2024 class, who started the final three games of the 2025 season, including Stanford's first Big Game victory since 2020, before transferring to Washington in January.

In an interview with Greg Biggins of On3/Rivals, Fujikawa indicated that UCLA was gaining momentum after his early October visit to the Bruins, but his trip to Stanford shifted his thinking. During that visit, he witnessed the Cardinal defeat NC State 31-28.

Fujikawa credited the quarterback development under head coach Tavita Pritchard and General Manager Andrew Luck as the pivotal factor. "Having the opportunity to learn from coaches with NFL experience and someone like Andrew Luck, who was the No. 1 overall pick and is still really involved with the program," Fujikawa told Biggins. "The coaches really believe in me there and made a point to let me know that."

Although Fujikawa is two years away from taking his first snap at Stanford, the program hopes his commitment signals the start of a strong recruiting class. With sixth-year quarterback David Warren in his final year of eligibility, the position's future appears to rest with freshman Michael Mitchell Jr., who has seen limited action, completing 10 passes for 46 yards. The arrival of Fujikawa and 2027 commit Sione Kaho could create competition in the Cardinal quarterback room.

Key Analysis

Fujikawa's commitment represents a significant recruiting victory for Stanford, which has struggled to land four-star quarterbacks in recent cycles. His decision underscores the appeal of Stanford's coaching staff, particularly the chance to learn from Pritchard and Luck, both of whom bring NFL experience. The move also highlights the increasing competition in the quarterback room, as the Cardinal looks to build depth and talent for the future. With Fujikawa's pledge, Stanford secures a foundational piece for its 2028 class and signals its intent to remain competitive in the Pac-12 and beyond.
