The San Antonio Spurs continue to fine-tune their roster on the fringes, recently bringing in guard Taelon Peter on a training camp deal. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Spurs have signed Peter, who spent his rookie season with the Indiana Pacers on a Two-Way contract.
Peter, selected 54th overall in the 2025 NBA Draft, appeared in 38 games for the Pacers last season, averaging 4.5 points and 12.9 minutes per contest. The 24-year-old shooting guard from Arkansas took a winding path to the pros, playing at three different colleges over five years before finishing at Liberty, where he shot over 45% from beyond the arc and earned Conference USA Sixth Man of the Year honors.
Exhibit 10 Contract Details
Peter's deal is an Exhibit 10 contract, a non-guaranteed agreement designed to provide teams with extra bodies during training camp. If waived before the regular season and the player spends at least 60 days with the G League affiliate, he becomes eligible for a $91,000 bonus. These contracts do not count against the salary cap or luxury tax unless converted to a standard deal, and they can be converted to Two-Way contracts if the player qualifies.
Given the Spurs' current roster situation, Peter's path to a standard contract appears slim. San Antonio has an open spot on their 15-man roster but is wary of approaching the luxury tax threshold, aiming to avoid the repeater penalty. They also have all three Two-Way slots filled. While a scenario exists where the Spurs could convert a rookie second-round pick to a standard contract and add Peter as a Two-Way player, the more likely outcome is that Peter participates in training camp, is waived, and spends the season with the Austin Spurs in the G League.
The Spurs are expected to keep the 15th roster spot open for flexibility, potentially converting one of their Two-Way players later in the season at a prorated salary to stay under the tax. For now, Peter will get his chance to impress during camp, but his immediate future likely lies in the G League.
