“Soccer Was My Thing”: Steve Sarkisian Reveals Strong Family Lineage as he Comments on FIFA World Cup

Source: Imagn Steve Sarkisian is prepping for another crucial season with the Texas Longhorns with fans convinced that this needs to be the year that the team finally wins the national championship.

Sarkisians team were one of the favorites last season but things didnt always go according to plan, and the off season is being utilized to ensure this time around the story is a bit different.

As off season practice continues, Sarkisian has been using some of his down time to talk about whats happening at Texas, and in one of his more recent interviews, chose to dive into a bit about his own past and connection with soccer long before he even got into the world of football.

I love the World Cup, Sarkisian said on The Triple Option podcast.

I grew up playing soccer, my brother, my dad, came to the US.

He was Armenian and had to migrate to Tehran, Iran.

And so, soccer in our household growing up was a big deal.

My brother was a two-time all American in college and he played professionally for the LA Heat back in the day.

And so (when) I grew up, soccer was my thing.

I didnt start playing football till ninth grade.

Steve Sarkisians Beef With Texas Tech Steve Sarkisian is usually known as a cool customer but hes been involved in a bit of a verbal spat as of late with state rivals Texas Tech, hitting out at the programs weak non-conference schedule in 2026.

The result of the comment was a verbal jab battle with the Red Raiders, with Techs head coach and previously a close associate of Sarks, Joey McGuire suggesting that they would be willing to play Texas in Week 1 of the season.

While this suggestion was dismissed, and Sarkisian clearly laments his teams comparatively tougher schedule in the SEC, there is still mutual respect between him and McGuire.

The competitive fire burns bright, however, and it might well seep into the new campaign.
