In his comeback from injury, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold compiled noteworthy statistics in Week 3, yet his overall showing was far from perfect, according to Bleacher Report. The outlet assigned Darnold a grade of C+ for his efforts in Seattle's narrow 33-31 defeat to the Washington Commanders.
Bleacher Report's Brent Sobleski noted that while Darnold amassed significant yardage and tossed four touchdown passes, his two second-half interceptions directly resulted in Washington touchdowns, one of which was returned for a score. Sobleski emphasized that Seattle would not have remained competitive without Darnold's contributions, but also pointed out that the quarterback gave the Commanders too many opportunities.
Darnold completed 31 of 45 passes for 379 yards, averaging over 12 yards per completion. He connected with Jaxon Smith-Njigba for two touchdowns, driving much of Seattle's offense as the team struggled to establish a consistent running game. However, the interceptions shifted the game's momentum.
The most damaging turnover occurred when linebacker Kain Medrano picked off a pass intended for tight end AJ Barner and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown. Darnold's other interception, grabbed by Commanders rookie linebacker Sonny Styles, also set Washington up in excellent field position, leading to another touchdown drive.
While Darnold's prolific passing and four scores highlighted his arm talent, the turnovers ultimately had the greatest impact on the game's outcome.
