As the New Orleans Saints prepare to face the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, at noon ET on Sunday, both teams have released their list of inactive players. The Giants were listed as 1.5-point favorites earlier in the week, a line that has held steady.
The matchup features two teams with surprising narratives. The Saints have been inconsistent, showing promise in close games against perennial contenders Detroit and Baltimore, including a win over the Ravens, and holding their own in their home opener against an undefeated Raiders squad. However, their next two home games were lopsided defeats: a blowout loss to rival Atlanta on national television and a 10-point loss to Minnesota that was more one-sided than the final score suggested.
Now, New Orleans embarks on a two-game road trip, starting today against the Giants, followed by a trip to France for an 8:30 a.m. CT game against the Steelers before a bye week.
For the Giants, new head coach John Harbaugh, a familiar name in NFL circles, has guided the team to a 3-1-1 record despite missing starting quarterback Jaxson Dart. Harbaugh has turned to veteran Jameis Winston, a former Saint, who has posted a 2-1-1 record in relief. Winston threw for over 800 yards in four games (one relief appearance against the Rams and three starts), with six touchdowns and three interceptions.
