Ludwig-Imagn Images When JP Hurlbert heard his name called by the Detroit Red Wings on the night of the NHL Entry Draft in Buffalo, it fit perfectly into his summer plans.
He already knew that hed be spending plenty of time in Michigan during the offseason.
Now he could pretty much pencil in that hed be basically making himself at home in the Great Lakes State this summer.
After attending Red Wings development camp earlier this month, Hurlbert headed home to Allen, Texas, for a little R&R.
I got to go enjoy some time with my friends and family, Hurlbert said.

Red Wings Pick Readying for World Junior Summer Showcase Hurlbert is one of three Red Wings draftees who have been invited by USA Hockey to participate in the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase.
Hurlbert, fellow 2026 draftee Victor Plante (47th overall), and 2025 pick Brent Solomon (109th overall) will be attending the showcase.
Training camp for Team USA is slated for July 22-24 at the Belfor Training Center, adjacent to Little Caesars Arena.
The World Junior Summer Showcase will take place July 26-Aug.
1 at the WFCU Centre in Windsor, Ontario.
Ive come back here to train, obviously, Hurlbert said.
The Ill go right down the road for World Junior Camp and then stay here for the rest of the summer and keep learning, keep training.
Hes enjoying spending his summer working out in Detroit alongside other Red Wings hopefuls.
Being with a lot of the prospects and then into Michigan, Hurlbert listed as his plan for the remainder of the summer.
So Ill spend a lot of time here for sure.

Yeah, Im super excited to go to Michigan, Hurlbert said.
I think Michigans a great college.
Its obviously a lot of skill there, a tremendous staff.
So when I got the opportunity, it was a no-brainer for me.
I think the way Coach Nard (Brandon Naurato) thinks offense and can help them develop talent is world-class, and Im just super excited to go there and learn from him.
