The Boston Red Sox are buying at the MLB trade deadline due to an incredible July, and they've already shown a willingness to spend a bit to acquire a good player.
After adding Curtis Mead in a trade with the Washington Nationals , the Red Sox are still in pursuit of right-handed hitting infield help, specifically at the shortstop position.
According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic , the Red Sox are in pursuit of shortstops from three teams this summer: CJ Abrams of the Washington Nationals, Jeremy Pena of the Houston Astros , and Zach Neto of the Los Angeles Angels.

"Instead, they have pursued CJ Abrams, Zach Neto and Jeremy Pena." Bowden is noting that New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor is someone the Red Sox aren't in pursuit of, but there are still a few others worth considering in a blockbuster trade this summer.
Starting with Abrams, from a team the Red Sox have already swung a trade with this summer, it's not going to be easy to land the All-Star shortstop.
He's someone the Nationals won't move unless they get a massive offer, as he's in their future plans.
Sure, the Red Sox could afford that, but they might be better off in pursuit of a shortstop from the Angels or Astros this summer.
MORE : Red Sox would love to trade for Angels Zach Neto or Astros Jeremy Pena Pena is the most likely option, as the Astros could fall further out of the postseason hunt by the August 3 deadline and have a real reason to trade the former Gold Glove and All-Star shortstop.
The Astros shortstop is hitting free agency after the 2027 season and won't be signing an extension until he gets there.
That gives the Astros a real reason to trade Pena.
Lastly, Neto, the.
The 25-year-old shortstop is a much more controllable option.
But, since he's younger and still a good player, the Angels' asking price might be a bit too high for Boston's liking.
But the Red Sox and Craig Breslow are seemingly going to try to land one of those stars, as an upgrade at the shortstop position is a priority for Boston.
They're in pursuit of all three of Neto, Pena, and Abrams right now, and could keep in touch through the deadline.
