The Baltimore Ravens improved to 4-1 on Sunday night with a come-from-behind overtime victory over the Atlanta Falcons, but the win required them to overcome a series of costly errors by veteran tight end Mark Andrews.
Andrews, who had four key miscues on the night, was nearly the scapegoat. However, his teammates rallied around him, delivering a game-tying drive at the end of regulation and a game-winning drive in overtime to secure the win.
With backup quarterback Tyler Huntley filling in for Lamar Jackson, the Ravens got a strong performance from their signal-caller, who accounted for three total touchdowns. Andrews, meanwhile, had as many catches as mistakes but played a crucial role in the two biggest drives of the night.
Andrews' Rough Night
Andrews' evening started poorly when he dropped a pass on third-and-goal on Baltimore's opening drive. The Ravens had a chance for six points but had to settle for a field goal, potentially leaving four points on the field.
On the very next drive, Andrews made an even more damaging mistake. After catching a 9-yard pass from Huntley, he fumbled, and Falcons safety Jessie Bates III returned it for a touchdown. That play gave Atlanta its first points and prevented Baltimore from mounting a scoring drive.
In the third quarter, after the Ravens finally scored their first touchdown, Andrews dropped another pass on a two-point conversion attempt that would have tied the game at 17. The drop looked similar to his earlier end-zone miscue, as he seemed to lose the ball while bracing for contact.
Late in the fourth quarter, Andrews dropped a third-down pass that stalled a drive. Falcons safety Xavier Watts made a strong play to break it up, and Atlanta subsequently kicked a field goal to extend its lead to eight points.
Redemption and Victory
Despite his struggles, Andrews contributed to both of Baltimore's crucial scoring drives. He had two catches for 16 yards on the overtime-winning drive and one catch for three yards on the game-tying drive at the end of regulation.
Down 23-15 with 2:30 left in regulation, Huntley led the Ravens down the field and threw a touchdown pass to Devontez Walker. Derrick Henry then converted a two-point attempt to tie the game.
In overtime, Baltimore got the ball first and embarked on a 14-play, 68-yard drive that consumed over seven minutes. The drive ended with a touchdown, giving the Ravens a seven-point lead and leaving Atlanta with under three minutes to respond.
Baltimore still needed a stop to secure the win, and safety Kyle Hamilton provided it by intercepting Falcons quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who had entered the game late due to an injury to Michael Penix Jr. The pick sealed Baltimore's fourth win of the season.
