Rangers Transform Madison Square Garden Into Fortress After Last Season's Home Woes

The 2025-26 NHL season was full of disappointments for the New York Rangers, but their performance at Madison Square Garden stood out as particularly troubling. The team's struggles at the world's most famous arena became a recurring storyline, as they were shut out five times in their first seven home games and didn't secure a home win until November 10. New York finished that season with a 14-20-7 record at MSG, managing only 10 regulation victories on home ice.

Improving at home became a top priority for the Rangers entering the 2026-27 campaign, and they have delivered emphatically. By the time it took them to earn their first home win last season, they had already piled up eight victories this season, including a recent win over the Philadelphia Flyers before embarking on a four-game West Coast trip.

Dominance at MSG

The Rangers' eight home wins and 16 points both lead the NHL. Their 8-2-0 record through 10 home games ranks as the second-best start in franchise history, trailing only the 9-0-1 mark from the 1972-73 season. The most significant improvement has come on offense: New York has yet to be shut out at home this season and is scoring at a prolific rate. According to NHL.com, the Rangers have scored at least three goals in nine of their 10 home games, with the only exception being a October 31 matchup against the Edmonton Oilers. Their 39 home goals rank second in the league.

Five different players are producing at a point-per-game pace at Madison Square Garden: Adam Fox, Alexis Lafreniere, Mika Zibanejad, J.T. Miller, and Tye Kartye. Among the 24 skaters who have appeared in a home game this season, only two have a negative plus/minus rating: Matt Rempe at minus-1 and Pavel Dorofeyev at minus-5.

Garand Shines in Net

Dylan Garand has been a key factor in the Rangers' home success. He has shouldered a heavy workload, appearing in 12 consecutive games with 10 starts. At home, he has been outstanding, with the win over the Flyers marking his fifth victory at MSG this season, tying him for second-most among goaltenders. Among goalies with at least five home starts, Garand ranks second with a 1.97 goals-against average and third with a .926 save percentage.

This level of home-ice dominance will be crucial in keeping the Rangers competitive in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
