The Los Angeles Rams made arguably the biggest splash of the offseason when they acquired star pass-rusher Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns in early June.
Along with giving up a 2027 first-round draft pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a 2029 third-round choice, the Rams also sent young edge-rusher Jared Verse to Cleveland for Garrett.
During a recent chat with NFL insider Jason La Canfora for an article published by Casino Guru News, Rams head coach Sean McVay reflected on his team moving on from Verse after just two seasons.
"The challenging thing for us, I have a lot of love for Jared Verse, and we tried really to not have him involved in that," McVay said about the trade.
"But those types of deals, that starts with ownership, and I have to give [Rams owner Stan Kroenke] and [Browns owner Jimmy Haslam] a ton of credit, because for you to do moves like that, its signed off by the guys who run the team.
They give you the freedom and flexibility to make those kinds of decisions, and I think it was really cool how it stayed internal." The Rams made Verse the 19th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, and he later earned Defensive Rookie of the Year Award honors.
In total, he recorded 12 sacks over the first 34 regular-season games of his career.
Meanwhile, Garrett is widely seen as the top overall defensive player in the league today, and he likely will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer years down the road.
He ended the 2025 campaign with a new official single-season record of 23 sacks.
"There was a lot of respect on both sides, and I think both teams feel good about it even though it was challenging on our end because there was a player on our end that I have a lot of love and appreciation for what hes done over these two years," McVay added about Verse.
"What I told him is, sometimes to get something great you have to give up something great.
Thats what that trade was reflective of." Those running the Browns are seemingly hoping that Verse will become more "universally loved" by teammates than Garrett reportedly was during the latter's Cleveland tenure.
Verse may never fully match Garrett's on-the-field accomplishments, but the 25-year-old nevertheless could become a significant part of the Browns eventually righting the ship.
