While much of the attention at Las Vegas Raiders training camp has centered on the quarterback competition between Fernando Mendoza and Kirk Cousins, running back Ashton Jeanty is quietly positioning himself as a potential game-changer. Jeanty's rookie campaign did not go as smoothly as hoped. He recorded 266 carries for 975 yards and five touchdowns, averaging just 3.7 yards per attempt. "When everything isn't going well, you keep working and maintain hope and faith," Jeanty said. "That mentality will carry into this year. But this year, there are high expectations, and I believe I need to make a big jump. That starts with being a better teammate and helping others."
Jeanty's struggles extended beyond rushing, as his pass protection also left much to be desired. This was compounded by one of the league's weakest offensive lines, which provided little room to run. However, the Raiders have since added Spencer Burford, Dareke Young, and Tyler Linderbaum, which could provide the blocking support Jeanty needs to thrive.
