Puka Nacua Opens Up on Calf Injury and Reinjury Fears After MRI

Puka Nacua has addressed concerns about his calf injury after contributing to the Los Angeles Rams' 35-21 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. The wide receiver had been listed as questionable leading up to the game due to an injury sustained in practice, but an MRI reportedly revealed no significant damage, clearing him to play.

Nacua finished the game with eight receptions for 68 yards and a touchdown, helping the Rams snap a two-game losing streak. Speaking to reporters afterward, he explained the mechanism of the injury: "Just trying to run, and deceleration after, guys, it kind of tapped off on the play. I just planted, and just felt something in my lower calf."

The second-year star confirmed that the MRI showed nothing significant, though he was uncertain which specific muscle was affected. Nacua also acknowledged that managing the fear of reinjury was part of his mental preparation before facing the Raiders. "I try to mentally prepare and say that I'm full focus and being able to play in the game and kind of letting some of those worries and fears go," he said.

Key Analysis

The calf issue is the latest in a series of physical setbacks for Nacua, who missed two games earlier this season with a groin injury and also dealt with a hip problem during training camp and the preseason. Despite these challenges, he remains committed to being available for Los Angeles. "Just trying to figure out how I can best feel out there on Sunday and doing everything I can," Nacua stated.

He credited the Rams' training staff for helping him return to action and emphasized the importance of communication with quarterback Matthew Stafford to stay prepared despite limited practice repetitions. The Rams now face a challenging stretch against the Los Angeles Chargers, Washington Commanders, and Arizona Cardinals before their bye week.

Nacua's practice participation will be closely monitored as the team looks to manage his workload and preserve his long-term health. His performance against Las Vegas demonstrated his ability to make an impact, but the Rams must balance that production with the need to protect their key playmaker.
