Patriots Reportedly Open to Trading Christian Barmore Ahead of NFL Deadline

As the Nov. 10 NFL trade deadline draws near, the New England Patriots are reportedly willing to part with defensive tackle Christian Barmore, per Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. The Patriots are in the thick of the AFC playoff race, but Barmore has seen his role diminish, playing only 41.9 percent of the team's defensive snaps and falling behind Milton Williams and Cory Durden in the rotation.

New England selected Barmore with the No. 38 overall pick in the second round of the 2021 NFL draft. Over his career, he has appeared in 71 games with 28 starts across five-plus seasons. His most productive campaign came in 2023, when he recorded 8.5 sacks, 64 tackles (39 solo), and 16 quarterback hits.

However, Barmore's career was interrupted in July 2024 when he was diagnosed with blood clots, limiting him to just four games that season. He returned to the field in 2025 and became a full-time starter for the first time, registering 29 tackles, 11 quarterback hits, and two sacks over 17 games (16 starts).

Despite his pass-rushing prowess—he has three sacks through six games—Barmore's playing time has dipped to 65 percent of defensive snaps in 2025, according to Pro Football Reference, and he has started only one of six games. Head coach Mike Vrabel addressed the reduced role in a recent press conference.

Key Analysis

Barmore's diminished snap count and starting role suggest the Patriots may be looking to move him, especially with the AFC race heating up. While his pass-rushing ability remains valuable, his reduced usage indicates a shift in defensive strategy. The Nov. 10 deadline will reveal whether New England opts to trade him or keep him for the stretch run. Meanwhile, the Patriots visit the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, Nov. 1.
