Oregon and Ohio State Set for Recruiting Duel Over 2028 Wide Receiver Hayden Koo

The Oregon Ducks and Ohio State Buckeyes are set to clash on the gridiron on November 7, but their competition extends beyond the field. A four-star wide receiver in the Class of 2028, Hayden Koo of Tustin, California, has emerged as a shared recruiting target for both programs, and he has now revealed his visit schedule for November.

Koo, who announced his plans via social media in coordination with 247Sports, will not be in Columbus for the Ducks-Buckeyes showdown, a game with significant Big Ten championship and College Football Playoff implications. Instead, he will travel to Seattle that weekend to witness Penn State take on Washington. The following week, on November 14, Koo will visit Eugene to see Oregon host Michigan, giving head coach Dan Lanning, wide receivers coach Ross Douglas, and the rest of the Ducks staff an opportunity to make a strong impression on the fast-rising talent.

Koo will remain on the West Coast for his November 21 trip to Berkeley, where he will check out California, led by former Oregon defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi. Ohio State will get its chance to host Koo on November 28, when the Buckeyes face rival Michigan. The Ducks, however, have the advantage of hosting him first and could make a major move before Ryan Day and his staff get their turn.

Key Analysis

Standing 6-foot-1, Koo is quickly becoming a national recruit from talent-rich Orange County. He possesses the traits Oregon typically seeks in wide receivers: speed and the ability to blow past defenders in single coverage. Whether under former wideouts coach Junior Adams or current coach Douglas, the Ducks prioritize speed, and Koo demonstrated that during his sophomore season for the Tillers, averaging 15 yards per catch. He also excels at turning short throws into long gains, showcasing the run-after-catch ability Oregon covets. Additionally, Koo offers red-zone and contested-catch prowess, two more strengths that make him a coveted Big Ten target.

Oregon's recent history of playing young receivers, including five-star Dakorien Moore and four-star Jeremiah McClellan, could give the Ducks an edge in Koo's recruitment. The Ducks still face stiff competition, but landing Koo would be a significant recruiting victory, especially if it comes in the same month the two programs meet on the field.
