SAN ANTONIO - Former President Barack Obama praised the San Antonio Spurs on a podcast this week, saying that the franchise is on the right track.

During a recent discussion on the All the Smoke podcast with Matt Barnes and former Spur Stephen Jackson, Obama said the Spurs have a promising roster, pointing to rookies Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper, along with franchise star Victor Wembanyama."I love this young San Antonio team," Obama said.

"Those guards, Castle and Harper, I love those two.

Tough." Obama said Harper's performance stood out to him and believes Wembanyama has all the tools to become one of the NBA's elite players.

He said that today's NBA demands much more from big men defensively than in previous eras, forcing players like Wembanyama to protect the rim while also closing out on three-point shooters. He also praised veteran guard De'Aaron Fox but suggested the Spurs could benefit from having a more traditional pass-first point guard to help organize the offense as the team's young players continue to mature.

Obama believes Harper could eventually grow into that role."I think they got there a little ahead of schedule," he said.

"We predicted they would be there in a couple years.

They got there this year."SAN ANTONIO - Two people are dead after a rollover crash downtown.
