Im so thankful and grateful for the career I had, Toews said.But at this point, its one thing to be healthy and to have the hunger.
Theres no doubt in my mind that I have the skillset to continue to play at this level and be an offensive player the way I know I can.But its just come to the point where its taken such a toll, Im just kind of ready to let the stress level go down.

Toews was selected third overall by Chicago in the 2006 NHL Draft and quickly became one of the leagues rising stars.Just one year after making his NHL debut, he was named captain of the Blackhawks, becoming the third-youngest captain in NHL history at the time.
He spent 15 seasons with Chicago before returning for one final campaign with his hometown Jets in 2025-26.

Toews was named playoff MVP that year and received the Conn Smythe Trophy after recording 29 points during the postseason.In addition to his aforementioned accolades, he won the Selke Trophy as the NHLs top defensive forward in 2013 and was a six-time All-Star between 2009 and 2017, and he was named one of the leagues greatest 100 players in 2017 before even turning 30.
