As the November 10 trade deadline approaches, NFL franchises have already completed several blockbuster deals, but the rumor mill continues to churn with more potential transactions on the horizon.
Following the Green Bay Packers' 27-19 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Thursday, NFL insider James Palmer provided updates on Prime about several playoff contenders' pursuits.
Chiefs Searching for Receiver Help
According to Palmer, the Kansas City Chiefs have been diligently working the phones for weeks in an effort to acquire a wide receiver for quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Palmer mentioned that the team is considering all options, including players like Brian Thomas Jr. and Josh Downs.
The 5-1 Chiefs could certainly use additional firepower at the position. Tyquan Thornton currently leads the wide receivers with 219 receiving yards, but he has appeared in only four of six games due to a dislocated left ankle.
Broncos Monitoring Jonathan Taylor Situation
The Denver Broncos are among the teams keeping a close eye on the Jonathan Taylor situation, per Palmer. The 5-2 Broncos have struggled to establish a consistent running game, averaging just 3.4 yards per carry.
Vikings' New GM Active on Phones
In Minnesota, new general manager Nolan Teasley has been described as a 'madman on the phones,' according to Palmer. The 6-0 Vikings, the league's only remaining undefeated team, are reportedly exploring upgrades at both running back and tight end. Despite boasting the top scoring defense, Minnesota ranks 23rd in points per game, indicating a need for offensive reinforcements.
Lions and Steelers Also in the Mix
The Detroit Lions are seeking cornerback help, while the Pittsburgh Steelers are looking into wide receiver options. The 4-2 Lions have surrendered the second-most passing touchdowns (16) and rank 26th in scoring defense. The 5-2 Steelers' wide receiver corps has been hit hard by injuries, with Roman Wilson (dislocated finger on his left hand) and Michael Pittman Jr. (plantar fasciitis in his left foot) both on injured reserve.
Already-Made Moves
Several big names have already changed teams ahead of the deadline, including left guard Quenton Nelson (to the Seattle Seahawks), defensive tackles Jeffery Simmons (to the Chicago Bears) and DeForest Buckner (to the San Francisco 49ers), Marvin Harrison Jr. (to the Houston Texans), and Joey Porter Jr. (to the Dallas Cowboys).
With the deadline just under two weeks away, further movement is expected as teams position themselves for a playoff push.
