The NFL has levied a $12,537 fine against Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Drake London for an unnecessary roughness violation that occurred during the team's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the league announced on Saturday.
The penalty, described by the NFL as "striking/kicking/kneeling," took place while London was attempting to catch a pass from quarterback Michael Penix Jr. The pass was intercepted, but the Falcons quickly regained possession when the Buccaneers fumbled a few plays later.
London had a forgettable performance, managing just one reception for eight yards on six targets. The Falcons' day was similarly dismal, as they were shut out 16-0 by Tampa Bay. Penix threw four interceptions, three of which came in the first half, and the Falcons' defense allowed 322 rushing yards.
Now, the Falcons are shifting their focus to their upcoming matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals in Madrid, Spain. London spoke about how the team is moving forward after the tough loss.
"Everything that we are watching, the main things (coaches) will say is, 'This may hurt your feelings, but it's the God honest truth,'" London said, per Tori McElhaney of AtlantaFalcons.com. "That's what needs to be said for us to get better as a team. So, no hard feelings, but we looked at it in an honest way, and we pushed past it, and we're trying to fix it."
Through eight games this season, London has recorded 39 catches for 624 yards and one touchdown. The Falcons currently hold a 3-5 record and sit half a game behind the Carolina Panthers for the NFC South lead.
Key Analysis
The fine on London adds to a rough outing for the Falcons, who struggled on both sides of the ball. With a crucial divisional race ahead, Atlanta must quickly correct its mistakes to stay competitive in the NFC South.
