The NBA has decided to skip the Middle East for its preseason games this year, breaking a four-year tradition of hosting matches in Abu Dhabi. The decision comes as a result of the ongoing conflict in the region, according to a report.
Since 2022, the league has held preseason games at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, starting with a matchup between the Washington Wizards and Golden State Warriors. Two games were played each subsequent year. However, no Middle East games have been announced for this preseason.
Instead, the NBA is scheduled to play two preseason games in China this October, marking its first return to the country since 2019. The league had also held discussions with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Brooklyn Nets, and Washington Wizards about potentially playing in Saudi Arabia, ESPN reported.
