Nasir Anderson Trims List to Five: North Carolina, Providence, Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee in Pursuit

As the 2026-27 college basketball season approaches, the 2027 recruiting cycle is intensifying, with the early signing period set for November 12-19. Several top prospects are nearing decisions, including consensus five-star recruit Nasir Anderson.

Anderson, ranked No. 10 overall in the 2027 class, has cut Syracuse and Kentucky from his list and canceled official visits to both schools. He is now focusing on five programs: North Carolina, Providence, Georgia, Virginia, and Tennessee, as he told Rivals' Jaime Shaw.

Recruiting services hold varying evaluations of Anderson: 247 Sports ranks him highest at No. 8 nationally, ESPN places him at No. 11, and Rivals lists him at No. 15. The 6-4 point guard from Duluth, Georgia, currently plays at Prolific Prep in Florida.

Anderson's playing style is characterized by powerful drives to the rim, effective finishing through contact, and excellence in transition. He is a skilled ball handler, distributor, and rebounder with defensive potential. "I would describe my game as a guy who likes to win and will do whatever it takes to win on the court," Anderson said. "Whether I have zero points and 10 rebounds or need to score and showcase my scoring ability, I'll do whatever it takes to win."

After a hip injury sidelined him for most of the summer, Anderson returns with significant international experience. As the 2025 U16 AmeriCup MVP, he excelled for Next Generation 3SSB before his injury, scoring in double figures in all three appearances and dishing out seven assists in each game. Overall, he averaged 15.7 points, 9.7 assists, and 6.0 rebounds with shooting splits of 48.8/33.3/42.9.

247Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein praised Anderson's physicality: "A lefty power guard who plays with a distinct downhill style, Anderson can bully his way to the rim more effectively than arguably any other guard in the national class. He's built almost like a football player, with a tremendously powerful upper body, good positional size, and long arms, which allows him to initiate and then absorb all types of contact going to his dominant side. He's virtually unstoppable with the ball in the open court, and while he looks physically mature, he's actually young for his grade, having turned 17 in July before his senior year."

Finkelstein continued: "Beyond his physicality, Anderson has a tight handle, terrific balance, and body control, both on the ground and in mid-air, along with an advanced lay-up package and the vertical explosiveness to rise-up when he has momentum. He snaps passes and has made notable strides with his ability to read the floor and create for others."

Recruitment Breakdown

Anderson holds 30 offers and previously trimmed his list to 10, which also included Kentucky, Indiana, UConn, Florida, and Syracuse. He was scheduled to visit Kentucky last week but canceled on October 5, and he also canceled a trip to Syracuse in mid-September.

Virginia projects to have one scholarship available for next season, with seven players entering their fourth collegiate campaign, including guards Christian Harmon, Jurian Dixon, Sam Lewis, and Jan Vide. The Cavaliers have a commitment from international center Mahamadou Landoure (Mali) and are targeting Anderson, Demarcus Henry, Paul Osaruyi, and Dawson Battle. "One major takeaway from the Virginia visit was the amount of history and culture they have there," Anderson said about his September 11 visit. "It was kind of shocking and eye-opening. I didn't know too much about them going into the visit, so the biggest thing that drew me there was the relationship I have with Ryan Odom and the rest of the coaching staff. Their facilities were top-tier."

Providence expects at least three open scholarships in 2027 and has three players entering their fourth season, including guards Ryan Sabol, Miles Byrd, and Malik Mack. Head coach Bryan Hodgson has yet to secure a 2027 commitment, but the Friars are pursuing Anderson, Antonio Pemberton, Patrick Otey, Lewis Ovwo, and Asa Montgomery. "The relationships and the coaching staff's culture really stood out," Anderson said about his September 4 visit. "All the guys are great. I feel like they really know how to connect with me and understand me, so Providence is a great spot in that regard."

North Carolina has no 2027 commitments but is actively pursuing several top prospects. Anderson visited Chapel Hill on September 13. "It was great. The arena is amazing, and getting to see it in person was something else," he said. "My relationship with Coach (Michael) Malone has been great. He's an amazing coach."

Tennessee has 17 players on its 2026-27 roster and will lose at least three players after the season, including guards Tyler Lundblade and Dai Dai Ames. Anderson is scheduled for an official visit to Knoxville starting Thursday. The Volunteers are also targeting Malachi Jordan, AJ Williams, Dylan Jones, and Cayden Daugherty.

Georgia, despite canceling an official visit, remains in consideration. "I might just go to Georgia," Anderson said. "My relationship with them has been great. I've known them since I was in ninth grade. I have a great relationship with the coaches, including Mike White, Coach (Antonio) Dean, and Coach (Jarvis) Hayes. All of those guys are great." The Bulldogs have commitments from 6-5 wing Jarvis Hayes Jr. and 6-4 guard Justin Wise.

Anderson does not have a timeline for his decision and indicated it likely won't come before the end of the early signing period in mid-November. Currently, North Carolina appears to have a slight edge, with Virginia and Tennessee close behind, followed by Georgia and Providence. "I am going to try to catch a couple of games, maybe take a couple more visits to a couple of these schools," Anderson said. "My relationship with the coaches will be big for me. I'm also looking for a great development plan that can help me get where I want to be during the eight months I'm there, as well as a program that wins."
