Nashville Predators Snag Defenseman Daemon Hunt Off Waivers From Minnesota Wild

Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Chris MacFarland revealed on Saturday that the organization has secured defenseman Daemon Hunt via waivers from the Minnesota Wild.

Hunt, a 24-year-old who was born on May 15, 2002, has skated in 11 contests for Minnesota during the current campaign, logging an average ice time of 14:08 while registering six shots on goal.

Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 193 pounds, the left-shot blueliner has accumulated 56 NHL appearances—all with the Wild since his debut in the 2023-24 season—and has recorded seven points, all assists.

During Minnesota's 2026 second-round playoff series against the Colorado Avalanche, Hunt contributed one assist in five games.

Minnesota originally selected Hunt in the third round, 65th overall, of the 2020 NHL Draft. Beyond his NHL experience, he has posted 59 points (8 goals, 51 assists) in 173 career AHL games with the Cleveland Monsters and Iowa Wild.

Before embarking on his professional career, the Brandon, Manitoba, native spent parts of five seasons in the WHL with the Moose Jaw Warriors, where he served as team captain during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons.

Key Analysis

The Predators' acquisition of Hunt adds a young, mobile defenseman with playoff experience to their roster. His familiarity with the Western Conference and his leadership background in junior hockey could prove valuable as Nashville navigates the remainder of the season. The move also underscores the organization's willingness to capitalize on waiver opportunities to bolster depth.
