MLB Hall-of-Famer goes scorched earth on Mets: ‘The talent needs to show up’

Pedro Martinez, the former Mets pitcher and MLB Hall of Fame member, is joining in on the bashing of his former team.

But does see a glimmer of hope for the rest of the season.

The Mets lack identity, personality and leadership.

It gets me mad, Martinez said in a series of tweets on X Tuesday.

Martinez pitched four of 18 major league seasons for the Mets, making two All-Star teams and playing a pivotal role on the 2006 teams run to the NLCS.

When I was with the Mets, our team was recognize by unity, Martinez said.

We didnt win the World Series, but we were pretty good and played together.

Hes now an analyst for MLB on TBS and believes that despite the Mets firing manager Carlos Mendoza last week, the blame should be placed on the players.

Everyone is playing their own game on their own, Martinez said.

They need to be together to be successful.

They can all give a little.

The talent needs to show up, and they need to be accountable.

The Mets are tied for the second-worst OPS in the league after accruing a $328 million payroll in the offseason.

Eighty-six games into the season, they are 10 games back of the final Wild Card spot.

Despite just a month until the trade deadline, Martinez does believe the Mets arent totally out of it.

Mets could turn it around this season if they put the right pieces together, Martinez said.
