Millsaps College returning to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in 2027-28 - Millsaps College will rejoin the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference starting in the 2027-28 academic year.

- The college was previously a member of the SCAC from 1989 to 2012 before moving to the Southern Athletic Association.

- Millsaps' new women's flag football team will begin SCAC play in spring 2027, ahead of the other sports.

Millsaps College is returning to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in 2027-28.

The school announced the change on June 30.

It had left the SCAC in 2012 to join the Southern Athletic Association.

"The SCAC has long been an important part of Millsaps athletics history, and we are excited to renew this longstanding relationship beginning in the fall of 2027," athletic director Justin LeBlanc said in a news release.

"Rejoining the SCAC represents an exciting opportunity for the future of Millsaps College and our athletic department as we continue to provide an outstanding academic and athletic experience for our student-athletes." In the SCAC from 1989 to 2012, Millsaps won 22 conference championships across all sports.

Since joining the SAA, the Majors have won 10 conference championships.

Both are NCAA Division III conferences.

One program will begin play in the SCAC sooner than the Majors' other 18 programs.

The women's flag football team, which will play its first varsity season in 2027, will join the SCAC as a member program in the spring.

With Millsaps' addition, the SCAC will have 11 member schools beginning 2027-28.

The others are Austin College, Centenary College, Colorado College, Concordia University (Texas), University of Dallas, Hendrix College, LeTourneau University, University of the Ozarks, University of St.

Thomas, and Texas Lutheran University.

"Joining the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference is a natural fit for Millsaps and an important step in advancing our institutional priorities," Millsaps president Frank Neville said in a news release.

"This transition reflects our commitment to providing an exceptional student-athlete experience while supporting the goals of our strategic vision." Tia Reid covers Jackson State sports for the Clarion Ledger.
