Tom Moore, who grew up in Millbury and graduated from St.
John's High, announced on Thursday, July 23 he was retiring after a long career with the University of Connecticut men's basketball program.
Moore has been coaching nearly four decades across various levels, including 21 seasons with the Huskies.
Moore spent last season as the men's basketball team's general manager.
He was part of four national championships with the Huskies as an assistant with coaches Jim Calhoun and Dan Hurley.
"It has been an honor to spend my entire professional life coaching college basketball," Moore said in a statement.
"I'd like to thank all the players I've coached and all the men I've shared the sideline with.
Every one of you hold a special place in my heart.
My family has made tremendous sacrifices to support my career and I could not have done this without them.
Sincere thanks to Coach Calhoun and Coach Hurley for believing in me at the beginning and conclusion of my coaching career.
To work alongside two of the greatest coaches in college basketball history was a blessing I could have never imagined when I began this journey.

After graduating from Boston University in 1987, Moore became an assistant at Worcester State in the 1987-88 season before spending a year as an assistant at Assumption.
Moore was named the men's basketball coach at Worcester State in 1989, and at 24 years old he was the youngest head coach in all of New England at the time.
He coached the Lancers for five seasons, going 76-59 before getting an opportunity to become an assistant coach at the University of Connecticut for the 1994-95 season.
More: UConn assistant coach Tom Moore of Millbury savoring another Huskies championship Moore was a valued assistant under Calhoun, joining the staff as a restricted-earnings coach and was promoted to associated head coach in 2005, and the duo helped guide the Huskies to a pair of national championships.
Moore was named the men's basketball coach at Quinnipiac in 2007 and spent 10 seasons with the Bobcats, going 162-146 and earning four postseason appearances and earning the 2010 NEC Coach of the Year honor.
In 2017, Moore joined Hurley as an assistant men's basketball coach at the University of Rhode Island.
The Rams had a spectacular season, going 26-8 and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament, which led to the duo jumping to the Huskies in 2018.
All told, Moore spent 21 of his 39 seasons coaching basketball at UConn and was a part of national championship teams in 1999, 2004, 2023 and 2024.
The 2004 title was special for Moore, as he shared it with former Holy Cross coach and mentor George Blaney, who was a UConn assistant from 2000-13.
Moore had become an integral part of the NIL program at UConn, stepping away from his on-court duties to focus on the front office in 2025.
