Massachusetts’ top high school baseball players: Meet the state’s best corner infielders

With the 2026 season having concluded, MassLive is taking a position-by-position look at some of the seasons top high school baseball players in the state.

Our third list focuses on the states best corner infielders.

In the final weeks of the season, we contacted MIAA schools across the state and asked them to have their baseball coach fill out a survey requesting information about their team.

These lists were compiled based on the information provided by the coaches who chose to respond.

BEST FIRST BASEMEN AND THIRD BASEMEN IN MASSACHUSETTS BASEBALL 3B Evan Albert, Lenox, senior Evan wasnt named a captain, but he isnt afraid to speak up and be that player when its needed, Lenox coach Bryan Maloy said in May.

He has been a rock for us in the field, which is why we have him at the hot corner, and his bat is starting to heat up.

3B Jack Anderson, Greater New Bedford RVT, junior A standout two-way player who also catches and pitches, the class of 2027 prospect has been exceptional defensively at third base for the Bears.

Jack is leading the team in RBIs with nine, Greater New Bedford RVT coach Kyle Alfonso said midway through the season.

His glove has been amazing as well.

3B Rodwin Arias, New Mission, sophomore Arias is primarily a third baseman but has also started at shortstop, first base and catcher, proving his versatility.

He had one home run, two triples and more than 10 RBIs as of early May.

Arias is one of the most consistent players on the team in terms of attitude and output.

He can think the game, and that comes through in his play, New Mission coach Joe Bartolomeo said.

He makes great decisions, is an aggressive baserunner and hits for contact and power.

1B Nolan Avery, Southwick Regional, senior Avery began the season at shortstop before finding his home at first base, where he excelled while also stepping up as a starting pitcher when injuries struck the staff.

Avery led the Rams in runs, RBIs, doubles and fielding percentage.

What he may lack in size, he more than makes up for with his leadership, attitude and mentorship, Southwick Regional coach Bobby Reyome said.

As one of our senior captains, Nolan has also played a key role in helping the coaching staff evaluate players abilities.

3B Dustin Ayer, Rockland, sophomore In his first varsity game, Ayer delivered a walkoff single to beat East Bridgewater.

He was batting .342 with 13 RBIs in 2026.

Dustin is in his second year playing third base for us, Rockland coach Mike Doyle said.

He has been batting in the middle of our lineup since his first game freshman year.

3B Beckett Bailey, Doherty Memorial, senior The transfer from St.

Paul was hitting .417 with two doubles and two triples for the Highlanders.

Beckett has thrown for us on the mound but also anchored our defense at third base, Doherty Memorial coach Brian Sargent said.

3B Dan Bourque, Clinton, senior Solid defensively at the hot corner for the Gaels, Bourque was recently recognized as a memorial award recipient with the Edward J.

Thompson award for outstanding golfer at the Gaels all sports recognition and senior sports awards night.

The multisport athlete also played basketball for Clinton.

1B Amir Cartagena, Bishop Stang, junior One of the Catholic Central Leagues most dangerous hitters, Cartagena was batting .553 with 21 hits through 38 at-bats.

He showcased all-around firepower, collecting four doubles, three triples and one home run and stealing 12 bases.

Cartagena drove in 12 runs and scored 13 times for the Spartans.

A pure hitter that can hit for power and average, Bishop Stang coach Brian Rose said.

3B Ryan Chagnon, Grafton, junior Through May 7, Chagnon was batting .333 with a .451 on-base percentage, collecting three doubles, eight RBIs and six runs.

Last year he hit ninth in the order but has had to move to the middle of the lineup this year due to injuries, Grafton coach Brian Andersen said.

1B Braedon Costello, Barnstable, senior Costello emerged as one of the Red Hawks top offensive threats.

The senior captain was hitting .457 with a .545 on-base percentage and led Barnstable with 16 hits.

He was tied for the team lead with 12 stolen bases.

After committing to a position change from second base to first base, he has done a fantastic job adjusting and securing a position defensively that needed stability for our program, Barnstable coach Rob Toffolon said.

3B Alexander Croteau, Shepherd Hill, junior A multipositional player, the 6-foot-1, 196-pound Croteau plays third base, shortstop and pitcher for the Rams.

He has exit velocities around 95 mph.

Al is one of the top hitters in Central Massachusetts, Shepherd Hill coach Ed Riley said.

Good feet and strong arm at third base.

Very big upside for a junior.

3B Logan Csekovsky, Westfield Technical Academy, junior Csekovsky is a strong, athletic player with great speed and intelligence on the basepaths, batting .342 with a .938 on-base plus slugging, 14 RBIs and 19 runs.

Logan is a fierce competitor with incredible bat speed and the ability to change the dynamic of the game with one swing, Westfield Technical Academy coach Matt Boulanger said.

3B Donovan Cummings, Southwick Regional, senior The senior captain began the season as the catcher despite limited experience at the position before stepping in at third base when injuries struck.

Donovan has been a strong leader within the program, consistently supporting underclassmen both on and off the field, whether by providing rides to practices and games or working with younger infielders during practice sessions, Southwick Regional coach Bobby Reyome said.

3B Brett Daniels, Winchester, senior Daniels is a two-year starter and leader who is planning to head to Pomfret School (Conn.) for a post-graduate year.

He was batting .300 with 12 hits, including four doubles and three home runs.

His defensive play at first has improved dramatically and is a huge part of our defense, Winchester coach Ed McDonald said in May.

3B Braiden Dion, Frontier Regional, junior A standout third baseman and right-handed pitcher, Dion was batting .278 with 13 RBIs.

Braiden steps up in situations to deliver and drive in runs, Frontier Regional coach Chris Williams said.

Outstanding defensively.

Makes game-saving plays seemingly every game.

3B Cayden Dionne, Smith Vocational, freshman An infielder and outfielder for the Vikings, Dionne has demonstrated steady fielding skills and solid on-base contributions.

The ninth-grader recorded a .222 batting average while gaining valuable experience in 2026.

Cayden is a freshman starter, Smith Vocational coach Luis Bonilla said.

He is a great hitter.

1B Austin DUrso, Frontier Regional, senior The senior captain thrived in his new role at first base for the Red Hawks.

DUrso was batting .327 with 10 RBIs and providing steady defense.

Made a move from shortstop to first base, Frontier Regional coach Chris Williams said.

Definitely more comfortable.

Model citizen.

Huge improvement from last year.

Impressed with leadership ability.

Solid defensively at first base.

Knocks everything down, plenty of big-time scoops to bail out our infielders.

1B Cayden Ellis, Bristol Plymouth, sophomore The two-way players work ethic and team-first attitude have impressed his coaches, who envision even bigger things ahead.

Cayden is a very good first baseman and also pitches, Bristol Plymouth coach Keith Powers said.

Cayden always plays hard and is a team player.

He will be a promising pitcher in his junior and senior years.

3B Landen Evangelho, Greater New Bedford RVT, sophomore The standout pitcher and third baseman was named a SouthCoast baseball player of the week this season.

Landen is the teams most versatile infielder, playing several positions across the diamond, Greater New Bedford RVT coach Kyle Alfonso said.

No matter where hes asked to play, he accepts the role.

1B Brian Fleming, Waltham, junior A Dual County League all-star last season, Fleming has continued to be a consistent presence offensively and defensively for the Hawks.

Brians defensive skills are unmatched he has saved us so many runs with his glove, Waltham coach Larry Scafidi said.

Coming along offensively; I look forward to watching him grow.

1B Connor Fleming-Benison, Arlington Catholic, senior The senior captain and Catholic Central League all-star was a force in the middle of the Cougars lineup.

Fleming-Benisons consistency was instrumental in Arlington Catholics postseason tournament runs.

Outstanding defender at first base and is leading the team in hitting with a .439 batting average, 16 RBIs and 10 runs, Arlington Catholic coach Chris Hall said.

3B Matthew Frattasio, Silver Lake Regional, sophomore Frattasio, a second-year varsity starter, was hitting .458 with a .500 on-base percentage and a 1.167 on-base plus slugging with eight RBIs.

On the mound, he had thrown 19.1 innings over his last three starts with 12 strikeouts and a 1.81 ERA.

Matty is a sophomore captain and a fierce competitor, Silver Lake Regional coach Jay Costantino said.

He works incredibly hard in practice and is someone who brings a lot of talent and energy to the program.

1B Morrie Fried, Pittsfield, senior A Brown University commit, Fried was batting .467 with a .590 on-base percentage and a 1.623 on-base plus slugging with three doubles, one triple, four home runs and 15 RBIs.

The Super 7 selection had drawn seven walks and struck out just three times.

Morrie has been an offensive force for four years in our program and is on track to have his best season yet, Pittsfield coach Drew Pearce said.

He is a great kid and takes baseball and academics seriously.

Morrie loves the game and being around it all the time.

3B Will Frostholm, Falmouth, sophomore Will has never really played third base, but if you watched him today, you would think he has done it his whole life, Falmouth coach Josh Oliver said.

Fits in easily with a senior-heavy team.

Will is hitting .256 with four RBIs and has a great career ahead of him.

1B Andrew Gagne, Pope Francis Prep, senior A left-handed pitcher and first baseman, Gagne was batting .375 with a .487 on-base percentage and a 1.143 on-base plus slugging, leading the team in most offensive categories with 12 hits, eight runs, five extra-base hits (including two home runs) and five stolen bases.

Gagne had struck out just once and had drawn seven walks.

On the mound, the preseason Super 7 selection had a 3.60 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 11.2 innings.

Andrew has been our best all-around performer halfway through the season, Pope Francis Prep coach Mike Tranghese said.

3B Colin Garrity, Hingham, senior The 6-foot-4, 205-pound St.

Lawrence University commit is a two-time MIAA all-state selection and two-way standout.

Garrity has an exit velocity of 103 mph, infield velocity of 89 mph and fastball velocity of 85-87 mph (topping out at 88.7).

He had two hits, three runs and a home run and pitched seven innings with two earned runs and 12 strikeouts in a 9-2 win at Pembroke in May.

Colin is a senior captain and our best player, Hingham coach Nick DeVito said.

One of the most feared hitters in the league who also is a top pitcher as well.

3B Kamden Greatorex, Reading Memorial, junior Greatorex, a two-year starter, was batting .350 with a .469 on-base percentage and had played flawless defense with a 1.000 fielding percentage.

Calm, steady performer, outstanding defender and third baseman and an excellent bat in the two-spot in our lineup, Reading Memorial coach Dave Blanchard said.

1B Ben Harrington, Westfield Technical Academy, junior Harrington was one of the Tigers most clutch performers with 23 RBIs this season.

Ben is a strong lefty presence at the plate, Westfield Technical Academy coach Matt Boulanger said.

He has quick, strong hands, and the ball jumps off his bat.

Ben is incredibly coachable, a good listener and a positive influence on those around him.

3B Teegan Hayden, Barnstable, junior Hayden entered the season as the backup third baseman.

One of the teams hardest workers and a leader, he was slashing .308/.333/.359 and playing great defense at the hot corner.

Injuries and time away from the field led to opportunities for Teegan to play daily, and he quickly took advantage of those opportunities and won the job, Barnstable coach Rob Toffolon said.

3B Andriw Herrera, Sci-Tech, senior Andriw is a senior with a big arm over at third base, Sci-Tech coach Casey McKenzie said.

He has provided some solid pitching for us this year as well as playing a big role defensively.

Herrera was batting .357 with five RBIs for the Cybercats.

3B Cam Hillard, Pittsfield, senior Cam has pitched for us for three seasons and has been very consistent, Pittsfield coach Drew Pearce said.

He has stepped up this year at third base as well.

Hillard was batting .276 with a .648 on-base plus slugging and eight RBIs.

On the mound, he was 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA, holding opponents to a .143 batting average.

1B Julian Kaiser, Turners Falls, junior The junior captain is the vocal leader of the Thunder, constantly cheering on his teammates and keeping everyone involved.

While his leadership stands out, its his defense that has been most impressive.

His defense at first base is second to none, Turners Falls coach Scott Minckler said.

He is a vacuum at first and saves his teammates over and over.

3B Grayson Kearney, West Springfield, senior A steady and reliable presence on both sides of the ball, Kearney was batting .295 with a .400 on-base percentage, consistently finding ways to contribute offensively and extend innings.

Defensively, he was outstanding at third base, committing only two errors all season while showing great instincts, hands and composure in pressure situations.

Grayson stands out for his leadership, toughness and team-first mentality, West Springfield coach Garret Kendziera said.

3B Evan Labrack, West Boylston, sophomore An early-season injury sidelined Labrack briefly, but his return made the lineup superior.

He transferred here this season and has been an instant impact for the team, West Boylston coach Tyler Forbes said.

He plays a good third base and absolutely crushes the baseball.

3B Jake LaPlante, Bristol Plymouth, senior The senior led the way at the plate for the Craftsmen in a late-April conference win, going 2 for 3 with a triple and a run.

Jake is a great team player who always gives his best on the field, Bristol Plymouth coach Keith Powers said.

He is a great teammate.

1B James Lehane, Sandwich, senior Lehane was a run-producing force for the Blue Knights for two consecutive seasons.

One of his biggest moments came in a 6-2 win over Division 2 Bishop Stang when he delivered a three-run triple in the sixth inning.

James is our senior first baseman batting .289 with four doubles, three triples and 17 RBIs, and he has anchored the middle of the order last year and this year, Sandwich coach Brian Tomasini said.

1B Jake Levy, Rockland, junior When Levy isnt dominating on the mound, hes providing solid defense at first base.

The junior had a 4-0 record with one save, allowing just nine hits in 24.2 innings with 27 strikeouts and an 0.85 ERA.

He was batting .375 with just one error defensively.

Jake has proved to be one of the best pitchers in the South Shore League, Rockland coach Mike Doyle said.

1B Dylan MacCormack, Shepherd Hill, junior The athletic, lean-framed infielder has been a steady presence for the Rams.

MacCormack finished with a double, two walks and three runs in a win over Westfield at Bullens Field this season.

Dylan has very good hands and feet around the bag, Shepherd Hill coach Ed Riley said.

3B Nick McFadden, Bishop Fenwick, junior The third baseman, second baseman and pitcher also plays for Antonelli Baseball Gold.

McFadden was batting .286 with a .407 on-base percentage.

Nicks leadership and baseball IQ really stand out, Bishop Fenwick coach James Reiling said.

He understands the game at a high level, communicates well with teammates and always brings great focus and energy.

1B Reimy Meran, Sci-Tech, senior Reimy is our gentle giant at first base measuring in at a towering 6-foot-4, Sci-Tech coach Casey McKenzie said.

As a senior captain, he is our leader defensively and can certainly give the ball a ride if he gets ahold of one.

Meran was batting .286 with a .642 slugging percentage, one inside-the-park home run and five RBIs.

1B Drew Mortimer, Clinton, senior A three-year starter for the Gaels, Mortimer delivered one of the seasons biggest hits when his two-run triple highlighted a three-run rally in the top of the seventh inning in an 8-4 win over Amesbury in an MIAA Division 4 round of 32 game on June 1.

1B Haylan Oberg, Grafton, senior A Saint Vincent College (Pa.) commit and team captain, Oberg was batting .383 with four doubles, one triple and nine RBIs.

In the 2025 season, he hit .373 with six doubles and 16 RBIs.

Left-handed hitter that hits for power and average, Grafton coach Brian Andersen said.

3B Michael OKeefe, Xaverian Brothers, junior OKeefe is a versatile player with good speed and is his coachs best junior.

Plays multiple positions very well (left field also), Xaverian Brothers coach Gerry Lambert said.

Great contact hitter; great average.

At the top of the Catholic Conference in batting average.

1B Nate Pena, Bishop Fenwick, senior Planning to attend Saint Anselm College, Pena is the type of player every coach wants.

The senior was batting .221 with 14 RBIs while bringing consistent effort every day.

He leads by example, competes hard and brings a calm confidence that the rest of the team feeds off of, Bishop Fenwick coach James Reiling said.

3B Drew Peters, Sandwich, senior After going from basketball team manager to star player, Peters became a top hitter for the baseball team.

He was batting .352 with eight doubles, one triple, one home run and 15 RBIs.

Drew is our senior third baseman who is going to play baseball at Springfield College, Sandwich coach Brian Tomasini said.

3B Sam Przybyl, Minnechaug, junior Przybyl was a 2025 all-league and Massachusetts Baseball Coaches Association sophomore all-star.

The third baseman and pitcher allowed six earned runs in 18.2 innings over four appearances with 20 strikeouts.

Offensively, Przybyl had a .524 on-base percentage with seven RBIs and 13 walks.

Sam is a vocal leader who other players follow, Minnechaug coach Mike Netkovick said.

He sets a good example for younger players in the program.

1B Oscar Reich, Amherst, sophomore The left-handed pitcher and first baseman was a top contributor on the mound.

At the plate, Reich has been reliable against top-end pitchers.

This player is a coachs dream as well, Amherst coach Jordan McCarthy said.

Does anything and everything that is asked of him.

Defensively, players trust that he will make every play at first base and can make up for their mistakes.

3B Brayden Richards, Narragansett Regional, senior Richards was a third baseman and pitcher for the Warriors.

He was batting .385 with one home run and 10 RBIs, and he had a 2-1 record on the mound with a 1.31 ERA and 16 strikeouts.

Brayden brings toughness and leadership to the team, Narragansett Regional coach Jason Donovan said.

1B Isaac Robinson, Reading Memorial, senior The three-year starter and team captain had a standout season.

A returning Middlesex League all-star and honorable mention all-scholastic by the Boston Herald, Robinson was batting .556 with a .604 on-base percentage and an .889 slugging percentage.

He had 20 hits, three doubles, three home runs and 24 RBIs in 13 games while posting a .988 fielding percentage.

Outstanding all-around player with exceptional hitting skills, Reading Memorial coach Dave Blanchard said.

1B Gavin Ross, Bridgewater-Raynham, senior The Saint Josephs College of Maine commit was batting .300 with one home run and an on-base percentage over .700, drawing 13 walks in 30 at-bats.

Gavin is a big, left-handed bat who has been a dominant force in the lineup, Bridgewater-Raynham coach Cam Fox said.

He is one of the premiere hitters in the South Shore.

3B Alejandro Santiago, Longmeadow, junior Batting .323 with a .429 on-base percentage, Santiago was second on the team with 10 hits and 10 runs while leading the squad with 10 stolen bases.

He provides the highest rate of quality at-bats on the team.

Alejandro has been a steady third baseman during the season and has had memorable moments that include a walkoff double versus Springfield Central and key extra-base hits against Maloney High School and Hudson High School, Longmeadow coach Ryan Blain said.

1B Cole Savastano, Silver Lake Regional, sophomore The 6-foot-4, 225-pound sophomore was having an outstanding season before appendicitis and an appendix removal ended his season early.

Through 14 games, Savastano was hitting .348 with two home runs and 14 RBIs.

Cole is a quiet leader on the team as a sophomore and someone his teammates have a lot of respect for, Silver Lake Regional coach Jay Costantino said.

He shows up every day and works hard and just quietly handles his business on the field.

When Coles season ended early, it left a big hole in our lineup, and we have really missed his bat and glove at first base since then.

1B Teddy Shuman, Canton, senior A multisport MIAA Division 2 state champion and captain with competitive drive, Shuman was batting .365 with eight doubles and nine RBIs.

Natural leader, strong work ethic and always one of the best players on any of his state championship teams, Canton coach David Walsh said.

1B Jason Sibley, Lenox, senior One of three senior captains, Sibley demonstrated a solid team-first mentality.

After a slow start, his bat came around and he led the team in on-base percentage.

The Bristol Community College-bound senior was solid defensively, handling everything thrown his way.

He had made the move to first base after the first couple games and did it without any complaints, which shows a lot as a captain and a senior, Lenox coach Bryan Maloy said.

1B Tommy Sullivan, Hingham, sophomore The 6-foot, 190-pound class of 2028 prospect has been valuable as a pitcher and position player.

Sullivan closed out numerous games on the mound and picked up a win with three innings of relief in a 4-3 victory at Billerica Memorial in late May.

Tommy is a natural hitter, Hingham coach Nick DeVito said.

Hes a sophomore coming off of a missed freshman year due to injury.

Tommy will be a top-tier hitter in this league; its just a matter of time.

He also has been our most reliable relief pitcher.

He is fearless and attacks hitters.

1B David Velesig, Falmouth, senior After suffering a devastating pectoral muscle tear during football season, Velesig returned to make an impact on the diamond.

The captain was batting .237 with four RBIs and was hitting the ball hard in 2026.

Dave was a tremendous third baseman for us last year and made the transition to first base, where he continues to play at a high level, Falmouth coach Josh Oliver said.

Velesig plans to attend Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

1B Tommy Wyatt, West Boylston, junior Batting over .400, Wyatt was stout at the plate this season for the Lions.

Tommy has a special ability about himself to stay calm and quiet in stressful situations while succeeding, West Boylston coach Tyler Forbes said.

He hits the ball with such force; hearing that ball hit the bat is special.
