Marshall University Football will honor its past on Saturday Nov.

14, as the Thundering Herd hosts Appalachian State in the annual Play For The 75 game at Joan C.

Edwards Stadium.

Presented by WV Lottery, the annual Play For The 75 game serves as one of the most meaningful traditions in college football honoring the 75 players, coaches, staff members, supporters and flight crew which lost their lives in the Marshall Plane Crash on Nov.

14, 1970.

It also celebrates the rebirth of Marshall Football and the 1971 Young Thundering Herd team.

More than five decades later, their legacy continues to inspire the Marshall community and serves as the foundation of what it means to wear the Kelly Green.

Fans are encouraged to wear black as Herd Nation comes together in a powerful display of remembrance and unity.

Throughout the game, special tributes will recognize the enduring impact of the 75 while celebrating the resilience, strength and spirit that have defined Marshall University for generations.

The game will also welcome hundreds of student musicians from across the region as part of High School Band Day, giving them the opportunity to perform at Joan C.

Edwards Stadium and experience one of college footballs most meaningful traditions.

Additionally, Green & White Day will invite prospective Marshall students to campus allowing future members of the Thundering Herd family to experience the pride, tradition and unforgettable atmosphere that make Marshall University unique.

As Marshall continues its 2026 season, the Play For The 75 game serves as a reminder that while every generation of Thundering Herd student-athletes writes its own chapter, they do so standing on the shoulders of the 75 whose legacy will forever be woven into the fabric of Marshall University.
